Thank you Amazon.com for making this workbench available. When I opened the box I thought, I could bowl on this thing. But, once the maple was on the Shop Fox base, it turned into a fantastic workshop addition. The 8' length offers plenty of room for projects and tools. I've also added 30" high storage shelves with casters on either side of the base.

I'm using this workbench top as a counter-top with a sink inserted, in an enclosed garden room. (See Customer Images.) It looks great and is eminently practical, since the top can be used for virtually any type of project. We had considered buying one of those Formica-type counter-tops sold by Lowes or HD, but they are pathetic compared to solid maple.

The wood is exactly the size Grizzly specifies. Search the Internet for comparable maple tops of this size and you'll see what a terrific bargain this one is. It's well made, very strong, the edges are slightly rounded, and the top and sides are sanded and finished. Of course, it's very heavy, so you'll need help to move it around.

I ordered it on a Saturday and the driver pulled up to the house the following Wednesday. I helped him carry it into the garage. It's a very impressive product, especially for the money.

I was surprise how inexpensive this solid top was even with shippig.. And great craftmen ship.. You cant go wrong for the money..

Short version:

-Top is beautiful and well constructed
-If damaged, refuse delivery
-No credit given for keeping damaged top. Exchange is only option.

Long version:

No problem with the product itself. Sticker on the back indicates these are made by Michigan Maple Block Co. (website is [...]). Nice to see these made in USA.

Shipping experience was poor. Top was minimally wrapped: a single layer of cardboard with plastic protector pieces on the corners. Shipping company did the rest: one corner of the box was torn away, and the middle was gouged. Unboxing revealed 10 other areas of damage (scratched, dented, gouged). Taking out some frustrations I suppose.

According to Grizzly, there is no credit, gift certificate or otherwise, for accepting a damaged top. This contradicts what other reviewers have said here on Amazon about other Grizzly maple tops, but this is what they told me today (8/23/11).

Your only option is to exchange it for another one. Fair enough. But be prepared to prove your case to Grizzly. In my case I spent more time than I cared for getting photos of the damage to Grizzly and following up on multiple phone calls and e-mails with them.

If I was going to do this again, I would have refused delivery. Have them keep sending 'em until an undamaged one arrives.

Several months back I decided to finish my garage...actually I wanted to make it more into a Man Cave, a place for me and my buds to hang out with out distraction from the "Real Housewives of San Diego". I decided to paint the walls, epoxy coat the floor, add a workbench and of course what Man Cave would be complete without a flat screen TV. Well, this review isn't about the flat screen it is about the workbench top. With a limited budget, I thought long and hard about the workbench, I wanted it to look good but didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. I looked into making a table top myself but with limited tools for wood working it would have cost twice as much as I paid for the Grizzly Workbench Top. So, I started to look into purchasing a table top, locally I found a few wood shops they would build it to the size I needed from scratch but it was going to be $500+. The size I needed was completly custom because of my garage and the space I had to work with, 22" deep X 96" wide. One night I was on Amazon.com and thought, "Hey, I should see if Amazon carries workbench tops!" Low and behold, they did! Grizzly has a store front right on Amazon.com, they have all kinds of products from tools to workbench tops. So, what I ended up doing was ordering the 30" X 96", it was around $300, which fit well into my budget. It was shipped to me via FEDEX frieght, they delivered it right to my garage door. When I took off the protective packaging I was amazed by the quality of what they call a Workbench Top, this product could very easily be used for Butcher Block Countertops, no one would be able to tell the difference. My garage "My Man Cave" is nearing completion, I wish I could attach a picture to show everyone how nice the workbench turned out. I would reccommend this product to anyone that is in the process of, or thinking of building a workbench for their garage. I was very satisfied with the whole process from ordering to delivery, it was as smooth as cutting butter with a hot knife. Thank you Amazon and thank you Grizzly!!!!

Very pretty, straight and well built. It did have dings in it that probably happened during shipping, but this is a workbench, not a countertop, so I wasn't too worried about it. If you are, look for ANY small dings in the cardboard packaging. If there is damage to ANY of the cardboard, assume that the top is dinged.

This is a terrific product at an even more terrific price. I shopped around for a workbench top like this on and off for several months in preperation for my garage remodel and the cheapest price I found before this one was at least $100 more. The only issue I had was with the first shipment. The company did a poor job of packaging the item and it was damaged in transit. But they were great about working with me to have another one sent out immediately when I refused delivery of the first one. The second one was packaged much better and it came pretty quickly. All in all, I'm happy with the product and the company. I will keep them in mind when shopping for any industrial items in the future.
