I had little room left in my basement shop, and was wanting a lathe to play around with. I had no room for a full standing one, and given I had no experience with a lathe, I didn't want to sink lots of money into one.I wanted to try it out, and see what it was all about. For the cheap price that this one is, and given I had a spare variable speed drill lying around the house, it was great. I works just fine for my 'piddling around' uses. You do really have to crank down hard on the tightening adjustments to keep it from moving. My only complaint, is that I wish it was longer so that I could do longer pieces. Overall, for the price, an excellent thing to own. I mounted mine to a spare cherry board that I had, and place it on my jointer bed when I wish to use it, and hang it in an I-beam in my basement when I am done.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought this with pretty low expectations given the price, but after using it a few times, I think this is a good basic hobby lathe, particularly if you are short on space and don't need a high precision tool. The tool rest is easy to move around, if a bit shaky at times, and the whole thing is easy to set up and operate. I just attached a cheap Skil drill I had, put in a blank, and started turning. I would not get this as a substitute for a pen lathe, but if you want something basic to turn small blanks to make fishing lures, reel seats, fishing rod handle components, or basic knobs or pulls, this seems to do the job.

At age 74, I finally broke down and purchased my first lathe, the Grizzly H2669 Hobby Lathe. This lathe is not fancy, but is functional and priced for those strapped for a generous amount of cash - like me. My first project was to shape a nosecone for a small model aircraft. Turned out great! Tony Beckman

Nice for the Price,

This is a very nice tool for the price. No heavy work can be done effectively, but it works great on light work! I recommend this product.

I attached my heavy duty drill to this thing and turned one small chess piece and my drill burnt up. Not so sure I want to try repeating the experience. Otherwise, it works very well.
