the set is well made. it is made in china. the set has to be honed, but it takes a good edge. it is a basic set and each piece has heft, so you feel like you have a tool in your hands. the pieces are made to be struck, which simply means it can be struck with a mallet, and it will handle fairly heavy carving. all in all it is a good investment, and will probably last a long time. i think the set is more for someone that is use to carving, and works on larger pieces, such as carving in the round. the fact that there are only 12 pcs is a bit of a draw back, because as any experienced carver knows you never have enough tools, and this set does not come near to what is needed. the one complaint i have is that the price, from grizzly, is too high. the set i purchased was far cheaper. sorry amazon:)

Purchased these about 2 years ago. Already have some much higher quality carving tools and bought these tools thinking it would give me some addtional carving shapes to add to my collection. If you plan on doing some crude or large scale carving these are OK and they seem to hold a edge fairly well once sharpened. My biggest issue is the steel on these tools is excessively thick which makes it almost impossible to carve any fine detail. The tools are basically clunkers as fine carving tools. They are unsuitable for any fine carving projects or for smaller figurines or detail you may want to carve. If that is your planned use for them you will be disappointed and frustrated. And if you've never done any carving before these tools will give you the wrong impression of how difficult or fun carving can be.

This set of chisels is heavy duty and seem to be of fine quality. I am a new carver, and this seems to be a great starter set.

The angles are entirely too steep on these chisels. I used a grinder with a flap disc to remove the steepness and they seem to work better. Don't forget to quinch in water often if doing this. A little wet/dry sandpaper of different grits and they're right.

Nice set carving tools. Though don't use the box. Sharpen pretty easily and fit in hands pretty good. Very reasonable price. Shipping was quick.

when i opened these chisels i expected to get what was picked online but the handles of these chisels are not what is advertised. they are painted reddish brown plastic or painted wood (i can't tell) either way the handles feel cheap. the blades look thick and sturdy but i haven't had a chance to use them yet so i don't know if they can hold an edge?
