Large, part metal, part plastic. Inexpensive, not exceptionally well made, but functional with no glaring defects--words synonymous with "Made in China," which this was. The base swivels 360 degrees if it wasn't clear from the advert. Light quality is florescent and, as another reviewer put it, "industrial." Adequate for a workbench.

One unfortunate experience was a back order notice of two months after placing the order though Amazon. In fairness to Grizzly, they did send an email asking if I wanted to cancel, and the order actually arrived about four weeks later, not eight.

Magnifier is 7x6 at it's largest dimensions and the light is bright, couldn't ask for more there. I might need to order another, my wife keeps stealing it to use for her projects.

Nearly two years later it is still working great. The base has gotten a little wobbly and I sometimes have to prop it to keep it still, but for the price an excellent deal

This is the ideal product for anyone who needs to do detailed work on small objects and keep their hands free. The advantage to me of this product over head mounted lights/magnifiers is once you position it, you don't have to move it. It stays put and you are still free to move your head and use your hands to do things normally. If you are doing work on models, circuit boards, crafting or any close work; and/or, your eyesight isn't what it used to be... this is the one for you. I ordered it and received it in less than a week (free ground shipping) and it was double packed for protection. You can buy cheaper but you won't get this quality. Good job, Grizzly!

Maybe the earlier ones were better, but the one I received was poor. The large lens is nice, but the lights are dim. The arms were dented and would not extend properly because plain and simple poor fit and assembly. The clamp was far too small for this lamp and if I had used it I am sure it would have broken. I explained all this in an email to the distributor requesting a return and still I was charged a restocking fee and shipping both ways. Bottom line, spend more for something made where quality matters.

We bought this lamp for my wife to use when doing needlework and knitting. She has found it invaluable. The light is bright and direct, and the magnification what you would expect from an overly large magnifying glass. You could pick the eyebrows of an ant using this thing (not that you would want to).

I guess this lamp does the job after 6 months. It seems solid enough and no surprises so far. Make sure you look at the dimensions : It is BIG and the light is very "industrial" neon...
