Grizzly ceases to amaze the ww world. This Tenoning jig is of very high quality. Although its not advertised, the fine tension knob is capable of .001" fine adjustments, although it requires a bit of finger precision.
Only one minor complaint which is why I did not give 5 stars..... The jig moves on its own sliding platform. While adjusting the distance to / fro the blade, the top platform (which holds the wood) can wiggle from square to unsquare, as the top platform does not slide on any type of alignment system. This would be a nice addition to the jig. Of course, this can be compensated by re squaring, but a bit cumbersome. Although I don't recall seeing this on any tenoning jig. So overall, the jigs price performance is superb... and surface area is dead flat, Kudos to Grizzly. I wonder why the very similar (same?) Shop Fox version of this same jig is 2x the price? Grizz and Shop Fox are now under same ownership....

Wow- What a tool, what a price!,

Ordered on Tuesday-received on Friday!!! Opened the box and laid out all the parts, nothing missing or damaged-Grizzly even supplied the hex wrenches. Main body of tool was well protected and lubricated. Instructions were good and the tips and hints were helpful. HERE'S A SECRET - Save yourself 50%- this the exact same (except color and logo) as the D**** tool at half the cost. On top of that, I'd rather show off the GRIZZLY brand than that hobby shop name. Performs like a dream, tight and accurate.

Tenoning Jig,

I picked up the jig at Muncy and had to clean it up from the protective grease. In the summer I would normally do this with brake cleaner but since it was zero outside, I had to use conventional MS inside.
I had to convert the jig to left tilt, not a problem but the face would not line up to the blade. I had to open up one of the alignment holes but then it worked out fine. The alignment instructions are incorrect and need editing. BLADE CLEARENCE ADJUSTMENT . . . . 6. Observe the contact of the saw blade . . . as shown in Figure 11. . . . . If the work support plate is not parallel with the blade, go to step 6. Ugh, I am on step 6. There are also two item 10's. But it is working fine right now.

Good Jig / Very Bad Base,

I believe most of the tenon jigs presently in the US all share this same problem as they seem to come from the same foundry in China. The problem is that the bases are not milled flat and the jigs rock on the saw table, something one does not want with a tenon jig. I've ordered 2 Grizzly jigs, one Shop Fox jig and purchased locally a Delta tenon jig. ALL rock on the saw and are warped in the same plane. The Delta jig (4th one) I purchased from a local Western Tool Distributor and when I explained that the 3 previous (Amazon) jigs were warped, we took it out of the box and put in on a brand new Delta saw. He was scratching his head when it rocked also. We measured a front to back warp of .005" and corner to corner .012" warp. All of these jigs are exactly the same right out of the box except for the paint and name...right down to the broken styrofoam corner over the jig backstop in each box. Until this present stock of jigs get thrown in the recycle pile one will be hard pressed to get a well machined jig. As for me, I returned both Grizzly Jigs and the Delta (it was+$40 more with tax than the SF Jig). I needed one for a project and ended up gluing plastic shim stock to the base of the Shop Fox jig so it would not rock.

If you are reading this review it's probably because you read the reviews for the Delta jigs and kept looking because of their poor showing. Like many others who have written reviews for this jig, I too was both suspicious of the price (compared to other `name' brands) and very concerned about departing from my favorite (Delta) brand of woodworking tools. Bottom line: You have nothing to be worried about. Buy this jig without hesitation.
Virtually every time I have bought something for ½ the price of the "quality" version of the item I have been disappointed and forced to re-learn the "you get what you pay for" lesson. This Grizzly jig is the rare exception to this rule. I am impressed with every aspect of this jig: packing, fit and finish, ease of assembly/use, set-up, quality of design, materials, and overall craftsmanship. Who ever in monitoring quality control in Grizzly's factory in China is certainly earning their salary. I spent a couple hours (taking my time listening to football) cleaning and assembling the jig. Lacquer thinner takes the cosmoline (packing grease) off with ease. Set up is very easy and quick. The jig comes ready for a right-tilt saw. Configuring it for a left-tilt saw (like I did) is a snap. I put a coat of paste wax on all the unpainted surfaces including the bottom. It glides across my saw. You will not just be happy you got a bargain price and saved some money when you buy this jig. This is an exceptional tool of higher quality than the name-brand companies. The fact it costs half as much is a mystery. Hurry up and buy one before Grizzly figures out they have under-priced this tool!

If you dont have one of these, get one. For the money, this unit should be $100.00+ the only flaw I could find was the "light" position locks. Something tells me that these will wear sooner or later, however if you over torque the best of metals, they break too. The fine adjustments are smooth and I used it right out of the box (half hour to assemble and true to blade). I have a Bosch portable table saw and this jig fit the slide with minor allen head screw adjust and removal of round slide locks. Tennons could not be easier,

Works perfectly....,

Out of the box. Well protected from sea air with large quantities of gunk. Came off with some mineral spirits and elbow grease. Took about 30 minutes to clean up. Then another 30 minutes to assemble. The instructions state this can be set up as a right or left tilt device but they are geared towards right tilt. I could not get the left tilt set up correctly. I then went for right tilt and got it working in no time. Too bad right tilt saws are dangerous to use. Hmmmmm..... Tried the left tilt again. Couldn't make it work. Then I realized the instructions were wrong. I didn't have to enlarge any holes as another person stated. I just took the darn thing apart and put it back together WITHOUT using the instruction book. Had it perfect in 10 minutes. The flat surfaces are dead flat. It's easy to square up to the table. It holds the wood better than my wife! It's a bit intimidating to use at first but I cut my first practice pieces perfectly. Every cut since then has been dead perfect also. Thanks Grizzly for another quality product at half the price.

I just received the Grizzly tenoning jig. The packing was a bit skimpy and a hold-down lever was broken (they could all be made a bit stronger). They sent a new lever but it took a week or more. The jig is very well made. There are several set screw stops for adjustment. The micro adjust knob gives 0.050" per turn. I have not used it yet but expect no problems. I will edit this review if there are. The price is so good compared to others that I was skeptical. I almost got the Delta jig just based on price and name alone. But I'm glad I got this one. I highly recommend it.

This jig is a very nice piece of equipment. The adjustments are accurate and stable. I would expect to pay more like $200 for a tool as well made as this. No reservations at all in recommending this.

I would recommend this product because of the great value especially compared to the Delta which is the same except for the knob configuration. Out of the box, mine had two issues which I chose to handle myself rather than return it to Grizzly... first was that the spacing for mounting the clamp assembly was slightly off, I had to expand one of the holes slightly to be able to assemble it (not sure how this happens nowadays when CNC machines are used for these milling operations), secondly the set screw for the clamp handle was cross-threaded... I hated to do it but since it is a one-time thing, I just forced it in and it worked OK (didn't have my tap and die set with me to chase the threads out). The instruction manual is terrible - for example the explanation on right vs. left hand set up points to the same set of holes on the jig and there is no instructions on using the two angle adjustments that are featured on the jig for making angled tenons. The jig works fine on my old Craftsman table saw but the dead stop that prevent the jig from hitting the blade doesn't reach long enough, but I'm not too worried about that. I agree with the other comments about the problems with having to true the unit to the blade with it backed off away from the blade, but you can eventually get it right, I just left the screw a little snug brought the jig to the blade, tapped it true then backed it off so I could fully tighten the screw. I'm a little confused about the clamping assembly, it's slotted but then one end is pinned so it doesn't seem to be adjustable... it should be adjustable, so that narrow pieces can be clamped against the verticle fence.
Overall I think I'll be happy, now that the extended setup is over. |
