A bit on the lite side,
This review is from: Grizzly H7723 60" Birch Workbench (Misc.)
A nice sized, simple bench. Not to be confused with a Lie-Nielsen, but also about 1/5 the price. Four stars because I had some difficulty with Grizzly on the initial shipment, but it did eventually get resolved favorably, tho there is a woman in customer service that is convinced I am a class A axh0le.
It took two attempts at getting me a bench top to get me one that worked. The factory actually drilled the holes for the vices opposite of what's in the pictures (and most of the benches in the industry). Grizzly had to cannibalize another to get me the correct top. Customer service said that most of their inventory was in that condition. I got to keep the wrong top, which is a bit of a problem; Can't use it, too nice to throw out, probably can't sell it, and not much room to store it. There are some problems. This thing comes in at less than 100 pounds assembled so it will move if pushed. They kept the cost down by using some 4/4 Birch scraps that they finger joint into 60' boards. The top, the sides, and critical parts are all from the same 4/4 Birch. Top is about an inch thick; same with sides and ends. All joints are glued and screwed - no joinery such as mortise/tenon. Shelves are 1/8 and 1/4 inch laminate coated MDF and won't hold a lot of weight. The vices are not super heavy duty. Some quality issues - I had to re-drill a couple of the dog holes because they got covered by other parts during assembly a the factory. I also had to re-glue a couple of blocks which seem to have been glued with maybe rice paste, but definitely not Tite-Bond III (which they are now). Max hold weight rating is 500 pounds, but I suspect that is on high side. Overall, suitable for light-medium duty. Go heavy, and you will pound it apart fairly quickly. Also, the top is Birch, not Maple, and tends to dent much more easily. Generally, Grizzly quality control is on the spotty side. You can just never tell with those guys. I'm not a "buy American" zealot, but this Chinese factory stuff is never quite up to snuff. So it is with this. I will use it carefully until I can get around to building my own. Mine will come in at the same price (including shipping) but be considerably more robust. Then, this one will get moved to reserve duty.

the Fixer,
This review is from: Grizzly H7723 60" Birch Workbench (Misc.)
The workbench is just to ticket for a garage workspace. Small enough to fit and large enough to get the job done! It comes complete with the necessary work space, storage area and accessories. This item is more then an entry level device---and it's affordable!

Grizzly workbench arrives with dings in top,

This review is from: Grizzly H7723 60" Birch Workbench (Misc.)
Well it is a nice bench but... the 1st one arrived with 1 ding in the top. If you order one be there and open it on delivery and refuse it if it isn't up to your standards. I returned the 1st one and they shipped me. They billed my credit card for a second replacement bench. This one had 3 dings in the top so after numerous calls (everyone was polite but...) returned the second one with 3 dings in the top and kept the 1st one with only one ding. They did credit my credit card when the 2nd one was received.
Grizzly has some internal coordination problems as I was getting 2 calls a day for 2 days from 2 different service reps who didn't know I was in contact with another rep the same day. This went on for weeks and is why I kept the flawed one. I think these ship from China, end up in a distribution wharehouse somewhere and are never seen or handled by Grizzly. I wonder where the birch comes from?
