5.0 out of 5 stars I think it's great, August 16, 2010
This review is from: Grizzly G0540 Single Spindle Horizontal Boring Machine (Misc.)
I received the boring machine via UPS freight ($71). I unloaded it into the front end loader of my tractor and took it into the pole barn. I easily opened the crate and inventoried the contents. There were extra bolts and nuts. There were no lock washers so I drove to town and bought some. Assembly directions were easy to read and follow. The boring machine went together smoothly and there were no complications. Cleanup was simple, quick, and easy. The directions emphasized I would need help; however, even though I am older and have several health issues, I easily put it together without any assistance.

I set it on a mobile base that was salvaged from an older table saw and wheeled it into the workshop.

I had previously purchased two (2) 2 flute, extra length, 1/4" mill ends via EBay.

I had never used a boring machine before so it took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to adjust the machine and do a set-up for 3/4" stock. After the set-up was completed I bored perfect mortises for a pair of rails and stiles for floating tenons.

I understand that this is not a router and it is not designed to "horse" through stock. To make the mortises I just took my time and nibbled away at the wood. It took me about 15 seconds to make each mortise (7/8" deep).

I had read other reviews on the Internet and the most frequent criticism of this machine was that it was not powerful enough for their usage. If you are a woodworker this is the perfect machine at a great price.
