Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Room temperature is vital in creating a safe sleeping environment for your baby and should be maintained at 61-67°F to help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The Grobag egg allows you to easily monitor the temperature of your baby's room at a glance. The Grobag egg glows yellow if the room temperature is within recommended guidelines (61-67°F). If the room temperature is outside this range, the Grobag egg acts as a visual reminder for you to take action to cool or heat the room, or to adjust the baby's bedding or clothing.

It only reads ONE temperature which is 77 degrees!!
K. Ariola
It's very helpful at night when I peek into my baby's room and only need to look at the color of the egg to see if the room is the correct temperature.
K. Medvedich
So it gives the temperature - nothing else ... and not even that very accurately.

When I first plugged in this thermometer, the temp reading was at least 5-6 degrees too high (I checked its accuracy with another thermometer I trust). However, I thought with all of the shifting during shipping it might need some time to readjust. I left it plugged in for a couple of hours and came back to check; the temperature reading was spot on! I have to wonder if all of the other consumers with bad reviews for this product did the same thing, or if they turned it on for a minute, got frustrated, and quickly returned it. If I turn it off (there is an on/off button on the underside) then back on, it needs about 5 minutes before reading the right temp. I leave it on constantly to avoid this problem. This thermometer gives off a nice gentle glow in whatever color, truly the perfect night light. You do have to look straight at it to see the temp as the reading is recessed in a little window. But the color of the egg tells me all I need to know with a passing glance; I mostly just check to see if it is yellow or orange, and also stop and think about how comfortable I feel in the temp of the room since the temp ranges in those two colors from 61 to 75 degrees.

I must admit I nearly didn't buy this item--the reviews were mixed and numerous people said they had trouble with the product. I've had no such trouble and am glad I purchased it! I tested it out in a room that I knew the temperature of--the egg said the temperature was very close (it said 68 and the temperature on my digital thermometer in the kitchen said 67.4 so that's close enough for me!) so I went ahead and put it in the baby's room and it has been fairly accurate for the last month. The hotter it gets in the house the more "off" it seems to be, but it's still not off by much--a degree or two at most. I like this product because I can just glance in and see the color and know whether it's too hot or too cold or just right (while I know I could base it off my perception of the temperature, I tend to always be hot when others are comfortable so I don't want to assume). I recommend this product as it has worked for me!

I love gadgets so I thought this would be great. This is a good tool for determining the temperature of the room, however I don't believe it is real accurate. I had to return the first one because it was defective. Customer service was great. I received a working one quickly. The 2nd one I received did work but I would still not trust the accuracy of the temperature.

When I purchased this it was for our first baby. It wasn't used much because of the issues stated, but now with three kids even if this product did work great it's not necessary.

I'm not sure that the temp reading is completely correct, as my husband and I felt it was colder than reported and sometimes warmer than reported as well. We stuck it at the middle of the room away from vents and windows, and our thermostat showed a different temp as well. Also, you can only see the numbers if you look straight at it, can't see them at an angle. Otherwise, great idea. I would have purchased a normal room thermometer instead to save some $$$.

I live overseas in a house with no central air and no thermostat. My son was born in the summer and I felt our room was too hot to have our new baby sleep in there, nevermind having to be swaddled and be in there. My husband insisted it was fine. At the time, this was the only practical item I could find that would mail to an FPO address, so despite some of the reviews, I bought it. It said our room was 80 degrees, which did not surprise me at all. In the office/extra room, a new room air conditioning unit had been installed, which told you the temperature of the room. I tried several different times with different temperatures and the egg was always within a few degrees (it was hard to be exact because the wall unit was in Celsius). Having this information, we were able to get the unit in our room fixed.

Now that he is in his own room (without a wall unit) and it's winter, it's very helpful to see how cold the room is getting and how hot the radiator or space heater is getting.

I don't necessarily agree with what they say an ideal temperature is, but that doesn't really matter. I can see the temperature and make my own opinion. I do agree if it's red, it's too hot and if it's blue, it's too cold. I just saw that another brand has developed a thermometer that comes with a monitor. That would be extremely helpful- so I don't get worried in the middle of the night and sneak in his room to look at the temperature in there.

As for accuracy and working the way described...I'm sorry it has not worked for some people, but it has worked great and has been a tremendous help to us.

I just went into my son's room and it had an awful, burning smell. I thought something was wrong with our furnace or in-room humidifier; however, after unplugging the baby monitor and Groegg thermometer from the outlet, I was burnt by the Groegg thermometer. It was so hot, and the plastic plug-in was melting. I am so grateful this was discovered during the day and not at night when my son was sleeping. I don't know what would have happened. I am sick to my stomach right now.
