I Like It.,
By Lauren (Novato, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grobag Egg Digital Room Thermometer (Baby Product)
When I first plugged in this thermometer, the temp reading was at least 5-6 degrees too high (I checked its accuracy with another thermometer I trust). However, I thought with all of the shifting during shipping it might need some time to readjust. I left it plugged in for a couple of hours and came back to check; the temperature reading was spot on! I have to wonder if all of the other consumers with bad reviews for this product did the same thing, or if they turned it on for a minute, got frustrated, and quickly returned it. If I turn it off (there is an on/off button on the underside) then back on, it needs about 5 minutes before reading the right temp. I leave it on constantly to avoid this problem. This thermometer gives off a nice gentle glow in whatever color, truly the perfect night light. You do have to look straight at it to see the temp as the reading is recessed in a little window. But the color of the egg tells me all I need to know with a passing glance; I mostly just check to see if it is yellow or orange, and also stop and think about how comfortable I feel in the temp of the room since the temp ranges in those two colors from 61 to 75 degrees.

I bought this room thermometer despite all the bad reviews b/c I figured you can't believe everything you hear or read. In this case...you can! It only reads ONE temperature which is 77 degrees!! Doesn't move from that. I get frustrated and put it away and pull it out again like a month later and try again, but get the same reading, 77 degrees when I know it's a good 50 degrees outside & our air unit was off. I don't think it works right. Oh, well :(

Cute but not accurate.,

I thought it would be cute putting this is the nursery to check the temperature, but its not accurate. Its off by 3 degree, meaning instead of changing color it will always stay the same color.

The egg works for me..,

We have very drafty bedrooms, and an inefficient floor furnace in an old house, so I was very worried about the baby being too cold. We got this because it was cute (I'm a sucker for creative packaging..) and seemed to be easy as far as the color-coded system. After plugging it in, I found that you have to wait at least 10 minutes to get an accurate reading. I'm guessing it just has to acclimate to the room. We plugged it in in the afternoon, got a warm reading, which made sense. Then checked it first thing in the A.M. 7:00 ish, and it was in the "yellow" perfect zone. Yay, happy. Although to me, it seemed like 62 degrees would be a little cold. That's the good zone according to the egg. I'll check with my pediatrician, of course.
Not sure what's up with all of the other reviews, but I'm guessing that they didn't give the egg time to adjust to the room.

waste of money,

So it gives the temperature - nothing else ... and not even that very accurately. Disappointing since the grobags are great and their sleep-suits are some of the best (esp for "long" babies) ... I followed their "dressing your baby" temperature guide with grobags and used the thermometer and, (stupid me), my poor little bubba was so cold all night that he eventually ended up with bronchiolitis .. and was sick for a month (that's a new mother for you ... never knowing how warm/cool to dress them). Should've just used common sense and thrown the thermometer out ... take care.

I'm not sure that the temp reading is completely correct, as my husband and I felt it was colder than reported and sometimes warmer than reported as well. We stuck it at the middle of the room away from vents and windows, and our thermostat showed a different temp as well. Also, you can only see the numbers if you look straight at it, can't see them at an angle. Otherwise, great idea. I would have purchased a normal room thermometer instead to save some $$$.

Great Baby Gift Idea,

I received this as a baby gift and think it's great! I like the fact that we have a thermometer in the room and the night light that changes color is a pretty cool feature. The only negative thing we've found is that we don't agree with the "legend" of what they say is normal verses too hot. If we agreed with them, the baby's room would be way to uncomfortable. But it really doesn't matter or affect the product, as long as parents are smart enough to decide for themselves if the room is too hot or not. This is a great deal too, as I've seen specialty stores and boutiques sell this product for as much as $70.00! This nifty little egg makes a great gift at a great price!

Rip Off,
This review is from: Grobag Egg Digital Room Thermometer (Baby Product)
I lost several nights sleep, thinking I couldn't accurately assess the temp. Who would buy a thermometer that they knew was off? How can something so inaccurate claim to help reduce SIDS? This is a rip off and the company who makes it is profiting off of parent's fear. They should be shut down.

I bought this little item for my new baby. I waited weeks to get it and it was broke on arrival wouldn't turn on and we tried to reset it and didn't work at all. If you buy this product be prepared for a faulty item.

Look at the UK Reviews!!,

For anyone considering purchasing this product, you may want to take a look at the (many) UK reviews: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grobag-Egg/dp/B000DZF1WE
I'd wait for the second version before purchasing. It's a lovely idea, users report the egg is very off in reporting the correct temp. |
