Editorial Reviews

PSICOTROPIA is a Spanish band, located in Madrid. In order to complete their instrumentation, Pablo TATO (Guitar & vocals), Jaime MARISCAL (Bass & keyboards) and Juan LLULL (Drums) received help from various guests (Cello, flute, harmonica, guitar, keyboards, vocals...). Recorded in the year 2003, the eponymous album contains ten tracks, half of them instrumental. If the main influences seem to be KING CRIMSON ("Starless And Bible Black" era) or JETHRO TULL, classical and contemporary music are also great sources of inspiration. One can also think of the Mexican band LOCH NESS: unusual melodies and beautiful atmospheres are to be found here. Without any limits, this dynamic music goes easily from melancholic sequences to powerful ones. Great stuff ! The second effort "Grog" (2007) is presented as a CD together with a bonus DVD, the latter showing a live performance of five songs among the eight ones of the album. The musical evolution of the band features the much more present voice (In both Spanish and English), as well as a much more cohesive approach as previously. PSICOTROPIA's influences now definitely seem to be PRIMUS or TOOL, the Seventies being substituted by the Nineties. As special guest, the presence of KOTEBEL's keyboards player Carlos PLAZA VEGA is noteworthy. Jointly published in the year 2010 by the Musea and Luna Negra labels, "III" evolves furthermore to more personality and sophistication. Let's also note prevailing lyrics (In Spanish), as well as the presence of strings on some tracks, not to mention the keyboards parts courtesy of the great Carlos PLAZA VEGAS. Here are eight excellent new compositions, to be sipped right now !
