1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful, October 20, 2009
This review is from: The Groom's Ultimatum (Inconvenient Marriage) (Mass Market Paperback)
My first thought after finishing this book was "I must warn others!"

This book is positively dreadful.

Firstly, the summary on the back had very little with the actual goings on in the book. The hero and heroine are step-siblings. He is 10-12 years her senior. She has a long term case of the hots for him, but has not had the chance to really act on it until they are brought together by a family crisis.

I think it is kind of pervy for a man to hook up with a woman-especially a quasi family member- he met when she was a child and he was an adult. The heroine was 12 when their parents married. I find this more than a little disturbing. To me step-siblings are o.k. if the two are about the same age. When the man is of a different generation, that becomes a little creepy.

The heroine's meglomaniac father, who I found to be unlikable, had too significant a role. The heroine and hero were like puppets in a marionette theater. This does not make for compelling reading.

The dialogue was laughable. "Thank you for being so patient." "Patience is my middle name". Hero to heroine's father, who is encouraging their relationship,"The last time I saw Sara, I kissed her". "That's good". "And then she kicked me in the groin". Heroine, ending an arguement "I'm out of here!" And so it went. This writer tried way to hard to be funny, but ended up sounding sophmoric.

Despite the many sexual situation which peppered this story, the heroine and heroine had very little chemistry. They had no conversation about anything besides their family situation and sex. No shared history, no interests, no nothing.

This book was tough to finish. There was no conflict. He wanted her and she knew it. She wanted him and he knew it. Their parents wanted them to be togeher? Where was the story worthy dilema What was the point of it all?

I would give this book negative stars if I could. I. Did. Not. Like. It. At all.
