5.0 out of 5 stars Groovalicious
Great CD! I was not that familiar with Chris Standring and purchased this CD on a chance. I liked it immediately, but the more I listened to it, the better it got. This is more than a one hit CD. Five of the songs on Groovalicious have become favorites. Thanks Chris, keep them coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Groovacious, January 30, 2004
This review is from: Groovalicious (Audio CD)
My wife and I heard Chris Standring twice at Catalina Jazz Festival and both times thought he was the best act all weekend. We have all of his CD's and listen to them all of the time. By far, Groovacious is the best all all of his GREAT albums. All of them have a lot of energy and depth, but this takes his music to another dimension. I thought it was wonderful the first time I listened to it, but you have to listen to it over and over to truly appreciate it. All of Chris's music leaves you feeling upbeat and good about life, yourself and everyone else, but nothing like this. This CD is classic jazz that needs to be in everyone's collection. Buy it now!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Jazz with a Lift!, January 30, 2004
This review is from: Groovalicious (Audio CD)
If you like instrumental jazz, with a retro spin, this is the album for you. Well constructed, thoughtful arrangements and a professional mix support a sparkling performance from Mr. Standring. This album has a prime place in my library - make it part of yours!

This is a great disc. I have each of his earlier releases and he just keeps getting better. This ought to get several Grammy nominations, minimum. The blending and grooves are nothing short of masterful!

5.0 out of 5 stars GROOVALICIOUS IS RIGHT! BREAK ME OFF A PIECE OF THAT FUNK!!, September 28, 2006
This review is from: Groovalicious (Audio CD)
The title is about as apt as a title can be! While I was reading some of the other reviews, I came across one that said something like "...neo soul..." This is a very good term for this CD, if not retro-funk. Yeah neo soul is right..! As I listened, I heard such influences that were reminiscent of Steeley Dan, Marvin Gaye, and the George Duke of the late 70's to name a few. Unlike so much of the Smooth Jazz of today, this is not so smooth... I don't say this to criticize, but to say there is a good, rough funk to it! I am usually the only one who is into jazz in my household, (my family usually just tolerates me) but this was soooo good that even the kids got into it! It was to the point that I may have to issue the following warning: This CD is so funky, rockin', bumpin' that you may not be able to take it to work with you for fear that no one will get any work done due to the fun, funky beats. Anyway this is another CD you would be well advised to add to your contemporary jazz collection!
