5.0 out of 5 stars THE SEXIEST, MOST ORIGINAL CHILL JAZZ COMPILATION - EVER!!!
When scouring the tracks on chill music compilations, it's hard to avoid the "usual suspects" of European producer-created songs that seem to be on every CD. This album, however, is in a whole different league. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I usually wont buy a CD without sampling a couple songs here on Amazon but after reading all the great reviews I bought this one. To me it is nothing but generic jazz. It reminded me of a soundtrack that someone creating a travel documentary would use. No Soul. No Edge. No Freshness. Very Disappointed.

When scouring the tracks on chill music compilations, it's hard to avoid the "usual suspects" of European producer-created songs that seem to be on every CD. This album, however, is in a whole different league. Not only is the content different (mostly artist-created and performed selections), the context is also unique: it's a continuous play mix CD, which means that all the songs are connected together - which is the same kind of presentation that you'd experience if hearing the music in a club. It's totally cool and a completely different approach to chill compilations. There are artists on Groove Boutique:Volume ONe that I've never heard of but I'm now totally into. I highly, highly recommend this CD to fans of chill music who want something different as well as people who are into smooth jazz who want something that's a helluva lot cooler than the usual stuff that they're exposed to on the radio. Best songs: Soulive, Headhunters, Alfonzo Blackwell, Jim Jam, Rafe Gomez.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool sounds for grillin' and chillin'!, August 13, 2004

You have friends over for a barbecue and you're looking for great tunes to play that create a laid-back, adult, yet non-elevator music atmosphere. What do you play? GROOVE BOUTIQUE! This album is so excellent and very hip. It's definitely smooth but not so smooth that it will put your guests to sleep. The songs are excellent and the fact that it's mixed make it almost like there's a dj doing his thing in your living room! Favorite cuts: Soulive, Chris Botti, Jimjam, Monet, and Rafe's song Icy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing CD, but..., August 14, 2004

... it wasn't what I expected of the dj Rafe Gomez, who's better known for mixes of uptempo jazz than chillout/laidback stuff. For a taste of what really makes this guy stand out, check out the mixes on his Web site - http://www.thegrooveboutique.com/sounds.php. They're free and they're around one hour each. You need REal Player to hear them. Don't get me wrong, I'm really getting into this album. But if you're in the mood to feel the beat rather than pour the vino, the online mixes are what you're looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the radio show, love the CD., August 13, 2004

I live in St. Louis and I listen to Rafe Gomez's jazz mix show The Groove Boutique on WSSM. The reason why I dig his show is the same reason why I'm enjoying this CD: it's a cool mix of hip, melodic, and lush jazzy music. Too much of the "chill" music that's out there is focused on redundant synthesizers with no songs. The music on this CD is song-based and sexy. If you haven't heard The Groove Boutqiue on the air, you must get this CD to experience the vibe! It's beautiful.

I would buy this album. Much better bought in a collection than buy itself. Its pretty smooth and awesome for roadtrip, quiet night at home, or have-friends-over mood music.

Would buy again and may have to since somebody stole it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate Dinner/Love Jazz album, November 2, 2007
This review is from: Groove Boutique: Volume One (Audio CD)
Catchy. Smooth, and very nostalgic.

Certain tracks remind me romantic nights under the stars. They have a very 70's groove you can't find on most retro jazz albums. It has a twist of modern smooth jazz with the trumpets found on older fusion albums.

My wife and I absolutely love this CD. We usually pop this into the player when we invite couples over for dinner. Or when we go out on the town and have the t-tops off in our Mustang to watch the stars.

You can't go wrong with this ensemble.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking for a vibe? Look no further., August 13, 2004

As a fan of smooth jazz, I was intrigued by the idea of a jazz mix CD. Groove boutique Volume One has some top smooth jazz artists on it - Chris Botti, Praful, Ramsey Lewis - but it definitely is cooler than the smooth jazz sounds that you're familiar with. There are new artists that I've never heard of whose music totally belongs on the radio, like Jimjam, Slide Five, and Clan Greco. Basically, I'm not quite sure what to call Rafe Gomez's music: cool smooth jazz? Groove Jazz? Quiet Storm jazz? Whatever the category, I highly recommend this album to anyone who's into jazzy music that's sensual, melodic, and heavy on the chilled-out vibes.
