5.0 out of 5 stars Juicy Book
The four friends are vivid in this erotic novel. Geneva, who is the primary narrator, is an overweight, overworked and underappreciated single mother to a moody teenage son. She wallows in Ben and Jerry's, pizza and fried chicken knowing that her weight is out of control. She is being harassed by Miriam, an upper level employee at Calorie Counters for failing to keep up...

2.0 out of 5 stars I expected better
After reading Groove, I understand why the author used a pseudonym. This book wasn't as good as her other books. It seemed too simple, whereas the writing in the others was very descriptive and imaginative. I wish I had borrowed it from the library rather than buying it and wasting my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Juicy Book, July 9, 2005
This review is from: Groove (Paperback)
The four friends are vivid in this erotic novel. Geneva, who is the primary narrator, is an overweight, overworked and underappreciated single mother to a moody teenage son. She wallows in Ben and Jerry's, pizza and fried chicken knowing that her weight is out of control. She is being harassed by Miriam, an upper level employee at Calorie Counters for failing to keep up with the program. She and her friends have one heck of a summer before Labor Day.
Crystal, her upscale and successful friend, lives comfortably in Central Park. But her love life is another story. Her boyfriend, scion to a real estate fortune, is on drugs and she hasn't any idea that his addiction is deadly. Noah, the homosexual, is experiencing heterosexual tendencies. Thanks to Beyonce! He struggles to deal with his sexuality whichever way he can. And Chevanese, or Chevy as she is called, is a shopaholic. She can't pass up anything with a price tag. She has to have it. She is looking for a man who will take care of her but no one seems to stick around to support her spending habit. She meets a Nigerian and finds herself in a dilemma that leads to events that land all four of them in the hospital.
This book keeps you reading wondering what is next going to happen. It definitely did for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Geneva Holliday!!!!!!, May 2, 2006
This review is from: Groove (Paperback)
I have always wondered what made authors write under psuedonyms. When I picked up this book I just thought it was a new author because I have never read anything by Bernice Mcfadden. This book was wonderful the characters were funny and you just felt like you knew them. By the time I finished this book I wanted to call up Noah (one of the character's) and say chile......I am anxiously awaiting Fever. I can't wait to see what Geneva,Chevanese and Crystal are going to next.

Groove was just delicious from start to finish! You will fall in love with Geneva, Crystal and Noah. Ms. Diva, Chevy will work your last nerves but there is some redemption for her!

This book will make you laugh, cry, scream and at times feel like you just want to smack some of the characters! You will experience just about every emotion any human being can have!

I should have known that the book was going to be a humdinger since the author, Geneva Holiday is better known as Bernice L. McFadden! (Sugar and This Bitter Earth)

Read it , you will not be disappointed. Now it is onto "Fever" to continue all of the drama!!

A Forever Fan,
D Bullock-Gamble

5.0 out of 5 stars Get ya groove on Groove on!!!, July 15, 2005

"Groove" is hands down THE BEST book I've read all year!! It doesn't hurt that it's by Bernice L Mcfaddden (a.k.a Geneva) who's novels are always a good read. This story was refreshing, funny and hard to put down!! I loved it, all the characters are so real they jump off the pages and you can relate to them. Geneva is hilarious, I can relate to the Ben & Jerry's, Noah, well Ms. Thang is questioning his sexuality thanks to Beyonce'. Chevy is a fake diva/gold digger who gets some trouble "into" her, and Ms.Crystal is a sucessful sista who's Prince Charming Kendrick is about to turn into a frog. All I can say is this book is damn good, I can see it as a movie. Terri McMillian who?? Humph she ain't the only one that knows drama. Introduce yourself to Ms. Mcfadden. Do yourself a favor and order this book, you will not be dissapointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, January 5, 2009

A very entertaining book. Funny, sad, and dramatic. I love how I could relate to all of the 4 main characters. Geneva did a great job at drawing out the personalities and making them come alive. So amazing that there aren't more reviews. I can't wait to read the sequel!!!

When you are on a plane or at the beauty shop or just need a break from life, you WANT a light hearted book that is easy to read. I never was able to find those type books UNTIL I discovered Geneva Holliday's books.

It normally takes me an hour to read 25 pages. With Geneva Holliday's books, I can read 50 pages per hour. The writing is simple. The characters are simple. The storyline is simple--light reading at its best.

I liked this book; it was funny and the storyline was enjoyable. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that she had character driven chapters and didn't tell us which character the chapter was about. Basically, you read a chapter and hoped you figured out which character was being discussed.

Laugh out loud moment: The Calorie Counters lady called Geneva and told her she was going to kick her azz if she didn't come to the meetings.

I purchased Seduction for a plane ride; I got a headache and couldn't read it but it too is a quick read so if you need a quick read - read a Geneva Holliday book.

This is a great story about 4 friends. It is a quick read.....and I personally wished it did not end. The story reminds your of everyday friends - you can relate to it. However, I was exceited to see that the sequel, "Fever" is out. I will be taking it with on a trip. Can't wait to read it! Ms. Holliday keep on writing!!!

Chevy and Noah made this book, they were so funny! I found the book lighthearted, and funny. A little boring in spots, but not enough to make you set it aside.
