5.0 out of 5 stars The 90s' Hip-Hop/NJ Swing Zeitgiest Began Here...
...with Teddy Riley, the Hall Brothers, Bro Gatlin, Gene Griffin, Bernard Belle and Uptown/MCA.

This has all the hits from Guy, album one, Guy 'The Future' and extras. I would have like to see the powers that be put Wreckz N Effects "Rump Shaker" on here since that essentially is a Teddy Riley jam anyhow you cut it. Mebbe a Teddy Riley greatest hits production...

3.0 out of 5 stars For the "please help me" reviewer
For the person that needed help on the "keep me from my baby" song....try looking up Aaron Halls solo debut cd. It includes two versions of "Don't be afraid" which was a big hitter!

This review is from: Groove Me: The Very Best of Guy (Audio CD)
...with Teddy Riley, the Hall Brothers, Bro Gatlin, Gene Griffin, Bernard Belle and Uptown/MCA.

This has all the hits from Guy, album one, Guy 'The Future' and extras. I would have like to see the powers that be put Wreckz N Effects "Rump Shaker" on here since that essentially is a Teddy Riley jam anyhow you cut it. Mebbe a Teddy Riley greatest hits production with those hits like ones with Redhead Kingpin, Big Daddy Kane, Heavy D, Keith Sweat and others is in the works....?

Watch out for those stupendous slo-jams on here. "Piece of My Love" (no questions asked) and "Let's Chill" are considered classics 'round here in these parts. And the much underrated "D-O-G-Me Out", IMHO, kicks a** to this day, with Teddy's patented, "drop it!" and "yep-yep!" And you find yourself going "Yea-A-A-Ow-O" (forgive my attempt to reproduce) with Teddy on "Wanna Get With U".

Final verdict: Guy was a huge seller back in the day, this CD is gonna bring back memories of many, many, many good times (although the aggressive beats on some of the cuts should not encourage the listener to do any of those Running Man type hip-hop dances...we all are a lil older.)...this will really be worth your $.

5.0 out of 5 stars "We Can Do it Like This. We Can Do it Like That.", April 10, 2004

It's hard to imagine what r&b in the late 1980s would be like without the members of Guy, but I'm willing to guess that it would be very dull. Their 1988 debut, helmed by hit producer Teddy Riley, was a classic that introduced to the mainstream New Jack Swing, and it created a bandwagon that everyone, from Bobby Brown to Michael Jackson, jumped on. "Groove Me" is their best-of collection that samples their recording history right up to their underrated 2000 "Guy III." Six tracks from their debut surface here, including "Groove Me," "Spend the Night" (the original album version), and "I Like." Other notable songs are "My Fantasy" (from the soundtrack to "Do the Right Thing"), "Wanna Get With U," and "Dancin." But while Guy were known mostly for their uptempo hits, their ballads often get overlooked, though slow jams like "Let's Chill" and "Piece of My Love" do appear. I'm a little disappointed that this set doesn't have "New Jack City" (taken from the soundtrack of the same name), but this is an overall complete and comprehensive survey of one of the last great r&b groups around. If you have to own one "Guy" album, this CD should be it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guy, September 20, 2002

I think this is a good cd. Finally a greatest hits cd from GUY. This was a long time coming, being an avid fan, I finally have the chance to listen to their greatest hits. The only negative thing about the cd is that, it should have contained their remixes of the songs. They had so many great remixes, but overall GUY i s still the best r and b group ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight Set, February 17, 2003
This review is from: Groove Me: The Very Best of Guy (Audio CD)
Guy was a Slammin Group back in the Day.Aaron Hall was a Soulful Cat&Teddy Riley was Bringing the Strong New Jack Swing Cuts.they had alot of Catchy Jams but somehow after a while it felt more like Business as to Making it work as a Group.but then again Teddy was rolling as a Producer.Aaron Hall never got that Solo Career he deserved.but this Set still is a Really Good Set&Captures alot of what they were doing back in the day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let's Chill..., January 29, 2009
This review is from: Groove Me: The Very Best of Guy (Audio CD)
Buy this accompilation for "Let's Chill" alone! Listen to it over and over and then listen to all of the greatness that was GUY! Oh my god this CD takes me back to my childhood, seriously. EVERYONE--do you hear me?--EVERYONE was jammin out to GUY back then. I swear they don't make great music like this anymore.
