5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR ALL WHO LOVE HOCKEY AND MUSIC, November 2, 2000

Hockey fan? Ramones fan? NoMeansNo fan? Well what are you waiting for? The Hanson Brothers bring out the best of hockey and combine it with a punk edge that makes for awesome music. This is one of the best albums it think I have ever heard. You'll receive a five minute major penalty with a game misconduct if you don't get this album, you total goombah!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars NoMeansNo and their evil alter egos..., January 4, 1999
This review is from: Gross Misconduct (Audio CD)
In a much over-done genre - The Ramones rip-off genre that is - The Hanson Brothers are everything the other bands are afraid to be...exact clones of the classic New York seminal punk band - the Ramones. Made up of Vancouver's NoMeansNo, and adopting a theme of hockey (name taken from the George Roy Hill film Slapshot with Paul Newman) , The Hanson's run through plenty of charged "1,2,3,4" yelps and super-charged riffs make this an entertaining homage to a classic band. Even the cover is a rip-off of the Ramones "Road to Ruin" LP. A classic for hockey fans, punk fans, humor fans, Canadiens and those who are suspected of being Canadien. Isn't it time you strapped on some hockey skates and cracked a few skulls?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Ramones-style raveup, February 22, 2003

This review is from: Gross Misconduct (Audio CD)
This album combines straight-ahead 2-minute rocks songs in the Ramones tradition, and is a surefire winner due in large part to the catchy melodies, tight performance and energetic songs. Some of my favorite songs are No Emotion, Sabrina, It's A Secret, Night Without You, and Go Away. For anyone who likes the Ramones, this is a great album. I wish there were more bands around like this one. There's a surprising diversity of fast and slow songs, and they're all pretty much great songs. Hanson Brothers! Yeah!

How is it that 3 out 4 reviews I see on this page are about the little boy band Hanson, and not the punk rock hockey homage that is The Hanson Brothers! Know what you are reviewing before you review it, and go rent Slapshot! I give this CD 5 stars 'cause it's about hockey, not changing the world. What else do you need?

5.0 out of 5 stars DUKE IT OUT!, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Gross Misconduct (Audio CD)
This brilliant merging of the Ramones sound and the greatest characters in SlapShot, the first album by the Hanson Brothers, is the one to start with! This a classic, folks! Almost every song is great on here, especially (ain't it fun listing your favorites like it's a matter-of-fact?) --especially My Girlfriend's A Robot (tho the version on some rare 7" comp. EP, called Blobs is way better, they should release it on CD somwhere). Um, besides that song, "Jack Off" is particauarly beautiful and INSPIRING!, Go Away is awesome, as is Comatose (my baby's comatose/cause i gave my babe a love overdose!);It's A Secret, No Emotion(a song about Johnny?),Lovesick (a song about how love REALLY is!), Duke It Out..aw hell, everything except maybe No More Headcheese, which is one of those songs that will stick in your head whether you want it to or not, y'know?
This is a really brilliant concept by NoMeansNo, and a must for...Ramones fans! But ya gotta have a sense of humor! Not like Johnny...
Oh, the ONLY drawback about this on CD versus the LP is the album version had an inner sleeve which parodies the one inside Rocket To Russia, done brilliantly! But the CD doesn't; it has the lyrics thankfully, but no cartoon drawings. (anybody else HATE the way those drawings were reduced to nothing on the Rocket CD? Me TOO!)
Just get this if you can!
God, it's F---king addictive!!
