Review

"Ensconced in a remote corner of the Himalaya, Bhutan has found what all the money, ambition and development of the Western world has strived for, but missed-Happiness, and the simple but fragile path to maintaining it." --Broughton Coburn, Best Selling Author, Everest: Mountain Without Mercy and many other titles

The pictures contained in this important book reveal the joys and wisdom of Bhutan s Gross National Happiness model. The words reveal the wisdom that today s world hungers for; a world less dominated by materialism and the spirit of capitalism to one in which genuine economic development leads to enduring happiness. Our ultimate goal is to build a civilization of love. For this journey we need to measure the conditions of well-being that will genuinely contribute to enduring happiness and spiritual well-being. --- Mark Anielski, Author, The Economics of Happiness: Building Genuine Wealth

This book exudes a beautiful spirit: The relational wealth in Bhutan s landscape and people. A treasure of words and images to inspire the world. - --Raffi Cavoukian. Singer, Author, Ecology Advocate, Founder of Child Honoring

About the Author

Anne Muller (photographer): "I have been many things in what is already a long life." Anne has been a painter, an actress, a director, a dancer, a choreographer, a ballet teacher, a sculptor and in one way or another they have all had to do with the telling of peoples stories. These apparently disparate but actually connected careers have led her finally to photography and specifically documentary project photography which, to her way of thinking, is an exceptionally enduring way of telling stories. Dr Tashi Wangchuk (Author): Dr Wangchuk continues his work in Bhutan for the government and United Nations as a conservation Biologist and Cultural Anthropologist. Dr. Wangchuk became the first Bhutanese to graduate from colleges in the Unites States earning a Masters of Forest Science from Yale and a Ph.D from the University of Maryland. He pioneered the conceptual development of the root causes of Gross National Happiness.

What an exquisite pictorial of Bhutanese culture! Each spread includes noteworthy quotes along with stunning photographs that transport you to this unique land.

This book is a tribute to a simple yet meaningful way of life. The inspiring concept of "Gross National Happiness: a higher vision of social, economic, political and environmental well being" could well serve our global community. Here's an example of a small, remote country whose leaders realize the importance of happiness and stewardship of the land by putting this philosophy into action. It has my attention!
