This review is from: Grosse Adventures, The Volume 3: Trouble at Twilight Cave (v. 3) (Paperback)
I have been a fan of the Grosse Adventures since book #1, but with the Trouble at Twilight Cave is my sons' and my favorite so far. My oldest is now 7, the youngest is 3 and usually we max out at a couple of pages on chapter books, even with the great drawings like in these. But we read 3 chapters the first night, 2 more the next day and finished up over the weekend. And they want to read it again already. Good thing it is funny and charming makes us all laugh, because I have a feeling I am going to have this one memorized any time now. The Buzzards as a "Wilderness Troop" made us laugh, and the "patches" they have to earn were perfect. Hard to believe that the author was never a Boy Scout. I mean Wilderness Trooper. I love the fact that Stinky and Stan always use their own unique talents and gifts to enhance the creative problem solving. That sounds odd, but since I am really trying to teach my sons to use what they have to do the best they can, and solve every day problems it is a really good lesson to learn and it is modeled really well in this book without shoving it down the boy's throat. My older one loves to say, "I CAN'T, Mom" when his first idea doesn't work. Maybe farting wont work for my guys, but maybe they will try something unusual the next time they are faced with a challenge, like a monster in the closet or a bully at school. Then again, maybe a good loud fart would work against that bully. At least it reminds them that keeping at it (persistance) actually works (who knew!). I really recommend this book. It is a fun read for us all with all kinds of little jokes to make you pause and giggle along the way. GO STINKY! GO STAN! Can't wait for the next in the series. PLEASE let there be (at least) one more!

My soon-to-be-8-year-old son LOVED this book - and the 1st 2 in this series as well. It is about 2 brothers named Stinky and Stan. One gases a lot. As you can probably tell, the subject matter is one that boys love. Stinky and Stan have hilarious adventures. My son laughed out loud while reading all three of these books. They'd be especially great for reluctant readers! I recommend these books for everyone, though. Like the other reviewer, I wish there would be more, but it doesn't look like it .... :(

My 9-year old son has NEVER read a book front to back in one sitting. In fact. . .he has never sat and read a book without being prompted to. . . until this book. Even though I require him to read 30 minutes per day, he ended up reading this entire book in less than two hours and LOVED it! I would definitely recommend this book!!!! From my son: "I loved it! It was the right book for me because this series is AWESOME!"
