1.0 out of 5 stars Some Do Not Snap Together
The plastic legs of some triangles are deformed slightly. They do not snap together firmly and do not stay together; the legs must twist to snap together. This is the second set I tried. A couple of months ago, I was driving down the freeway at about 75mph. As I cleared a hill, there was a car stalled car in the middle of the freeway. A lady standing behind the back bumper waving people to the right so that they would not hit her. In the back seat of the car was a child. I slowed down and as I passed her, I rolled down my window and yelled at her to get herself and her child well clear off the road to the wide grassy median, because she was in danger." She and her child were in mortal danger.

I myself have a child, and this started a train of thought in my mind: THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ME!

A few weeks later, I was driving down some back road when I came across a commercial truck which was stalled at some stop sign -- behind the truck, the driver had set up a set of triangles like the ones pictured here --- WOW, they were bright and very clearly visible.

I have heard about road flares etc and other devices to let people know that they're approaching a broken down vehicle and I remember that as a child, my father owned a set of triangles like the ones the truck was using. At once, I recognized the solution to my problem and how much smarter than me dad really was.

I searched for signal triangles, road flares, etc on Amazon until I came across this set which resembles the set that my father owned so long ago (I'm sure he still has his set somewhere).

I own an SUV and this fits along with my jack and other repair (grandpa stuff) in one of the floorboard compartments....so I can retain some semblance of "coolness" while still having everything I need to get me going if triple A doesn't answer the phone.

I wound up buying them.

Pros:
- Big
- Sturdy
- Highly Reflective
- Heavy (this is good - the bases are filled with sand I think and sealed no sand can leak out)

Cons:
- The box on my father's set had sturdier latches on the box.

The latches on the box being flimsy doesn't really matter, this isn't something that you're going to pull out regularly. This is something that you pull out in the uneventful situation that you should winde up in the middle of the road with your vehicle and loved ones in it.

It comes with directions on how to use these.

Overall, I think this is a must have for any responsible motorist....when I was younger, I didn't carry anything in my car and now I'm turning into my father and my grandfather (who had even more stuff than my dad) --- argh.......but you know what, the those old guys were very wise. I should've paid a lot more attention to them back then.

If you're a professional trucker who stops quite a bit and uses these frequently, just bear in mind that the box will likely not support routine use of taking these in and out (the latches will likely break) and the triangles themselves might now survive rigors of regular use....but hey, I could be wrong.

For the average motorist, they're perfect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Some Do Not Snap Together, July 21, 2010

This review is from: Grote 71422 Triangle Warning Kit, Set Of 3 (Misc.)
The plastic legs of some triangles are deformed slightly. They do not snap together firmly and do not stay together; the legs must twist to snap together. This is the second set I tried. The first set had the problem with one of the three triangles. The second set had the same problem with two of the three. This problem may develop because none of the triangles snap together firmly in the storage position. That is an issue because two of the three go in the storage box upside-down. It is very difficult to put them in the box without the legs flopping down. I suspect the faulty triangles were returned before and stored improperly for a long time, which left the legs deformed. I have none of these problems with a ten-year-old set made by SATE-LITE that I keep in another car. I cannot easily find a website that sells SATE-LITE. I will return the Grote set again and try another brand.

But it does the job. Will take up more space in your trunk than you might expect. They are sturdy though.

This review is from: Grote 71422 Triangle Warning Kit, Set Of 3 (Misc.)
When we recieved this the box was missing a latch and one of the triangle reflectors was missing some parts which my husband went to the local hardware and bought the parts that were needed to fix it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well constructed emergency triangles, January 19, 2010

This set of 3 warning triangles is a very strong, extemely well constructed set. I was very surprsied when I opened the heavy plastic case to find that the triangles were very stury and would stand up to the most adverse road conditions. A great buy and a necessary part of anyone's emergency auto gear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heavy for Sure, June 15, 2011

I received my Grotes in a very short time from Amazon. Definitely heavier than I had expected. I think my set may have been used and returned, however. There was a sandy material inside both the shipping box and the orange container box that held the 3 triangles. The container box was pretty scuffed up, the tabs that hold the container box closed looked as if they had been opened numerous times due the discoloration where the tabs bend. The grit was all over each triangle and I didn't have gloves handy so I haven't tried putting them together yet. I did unfold one but did not snap it together. It appears to do what it is expected to do. Something needed, but nothing to rave about.

4.0 out of 5 stars These Are Safety Triangles, June 9, 2011

These are plain, old boring safety triangles, to be placed on the road as flares in case of emergency. They aren't the best, but they are not bad at all.

Safety triangles are pretty much safety triangles, they all kind of suck and aren't that user friendly. They are heavy and get in your way, but they also help keep you, your vehicle and your passengers safe in an emergency if they are used correctly.

For the price, these triangles are great; compared to other triangles we have used: they are good; compared to your average automotive product: they are fair.

These are not small triangles, they are well built and worth the money, but if you are looking to save some space these are not for you.

I alway carry triangles, after moving back to the US I bought these. They are sturdy and bright, they look like they will withstand some wind. The box tends to slide around a lot in the trunk, 4 stars because you can only like and not love safety triangles.

It's exactly what I wanted. 3 triangles in a nice little box to take up as little room in my tool box as possible.
