Editorial Reviews

In the more recent tradition of LOATHING, GROTESQUE BLESSINGS has a style all it's own which is both completely brutal yet superbly produced and technically proficient. Discriminating fans of extreme music will appreciate the professionalism here. Music, packaging and production are all A+.

Broken Hope really push the limits with this masterpiece. If you thought the previous album Loathing was technical, wait til you hear this one. Brian Griffin and Jeremy Wagner are GODS. Broken Hope on this album makes other technical Deathmetal bands sound like puff daddy. I am still baffled why the band split up after this album. Technical Deathmetal has experienced such a tremendous resurgence over the last few years and I think Broken Hope need to reform and show all these new guys what it's all about. Suffocation is probably the only other Brutal technical band that matches up to Broken Hope. Grotesque Blessings is definitely the peak of the bands' musical output. I hear that they actually recorded another album after this one but they broke up and the album never got released. What a shame. email Jeremy and Brian and tell them to reform the band!!!!!!

WOW! That's the best way to start out this review. I've been a long time fan of Broken Hope and I've enjoyed their technical progression over the years. "Grotesque Blessings" is by far the band's biggest leap forward. The guitars are as brutal as ever with a mesh of melody and all out tech that will MAKE you rewind, and listen again. Classic B.H. vocals, but this time around, a bit more structure and clarity went into the effort. The two biggest surprises came from the bass and drum departments. The bass is totally heard in the mix and is a COMPLETE welcome addition to the music. Thought and time went into these bass tracks let me tell you. The drums can't help but be noticed. A different approach to Death Metal drumming, combining classic D.M. styles, killer blast, and original fills and changes that I really have not heard before. Very cool, very sick, very MANDATORY! The production and packaging are AMAZING also! This is without a doubt one of the best releases I have purchased in a LONG TIME! My hat is off to Broken Hope for this one, my advice........BUY IT!

Finally, a death metal album with such clean production that you don't have to paste your ears to the speakers to distinguish one note from the next! These guys go far beyond the usual tritones and diminished progressions to craft some refreshingly innovative riffs. If you liked Suffocation (PLEASE GET BACK TOGETHER!), you'll dig this. And vice versa!
Deep, sick vocals + twin guitar assault + fast riffs, slow riffs, and everything in between + impecable drumming + cool baselines = AWESOME DEATH METAL!

A creative, technical and a feast for the ears, Broken Hope deals it's cards out in a more technical approach, while still retaining the sick lyrics of the early years. Different bassists throughout the CD, if you care. Production: i hope you like the words MID-RANGE.

This is the peak of Broken Hope's creations. Music for this album is so well prepared. Eventhough they're dealing with a new drummer, they're all coordinated. Music is even more proffesionally prepared (of course).
Now with guitarists Brian and Jeremy playing in a side project band of black metal with female vocals (Em Sinfonia), which is great too, their tendencies are changing to a more refined music with clearer guitar and bass riffs.
