This album is an awesome blend of metal and hardcore, while those two styles have been combined before, Himsa has put a twist on it that makes the music all their own. I(and my band mates in Adjourn)had the privilage to play a few shows with these guy's and By a Thread, I socilized with them a little bit, but I didn't get to know them that well, but their roadies are all badasses so buy this album. You won't regret it.

Ribbed for your pleasure,

Hailing from Seattle, these little bastards bombard you with a wealth of straight in your face riffs... verging on the metal but staying inside the hardcore punk sound, whatever that means. It's hard, and the singer just rips his vocal chords out and puts them on display for all to see.

I'm really into Himsa's later stuff, but I decided in order to be a real fan I should try their older stuff. When I bought this CD I wasn't really expecting much since I heard their newer stuff was way better. But I was pleasantly surprised! Granted, this album sounds a lot different than Courting Tragedy, but that's to be expected without Johnny Pettibone. But even though it's different, it's a very good change. I really recommend this album to anyone who likes good old fashioned hXc.

I find it hard to take the band Himsa seriously and here's why.
It seems like they're trying a little too hard. They have an obsessive aversion to "defining" their music: "It could be country, it could be death metal." Why not give it a classification? To prove a point? They don't want to limit their style, which is fine, but why make such a big deal out of it? They take their music a little too seriously, which is funny because they have been influenced greatly by other bands to the point of lacking in imagination, and anyone who's listened to enough metal will probably be reminded of some other band. That's especially the case on "Ground Breaking Ceremony" which is very unoriginal. The name "Himsa" sounds kind of dumb, and most people don't know what it's supposed to mean anyway -- what's so cool or tough about that? Some people will be fascinated and sucked in by the band's image, and I feel sorry for them. I can't help but laugh at Himsa, because I don't think their music is "pure rage and violence" and I don't think they live that kind of lifestyle. To me, Himsa's just a bunch of nerdy retards playing metal.

more stupid political sXe hardcore, sounds like trial. well maybe a little more metal. the music itself is OK but the vox ruin it for me, and the music isn't exactly "groundbreaking"- try a cooler band like botch or harkonen or cave in or dillinger escape plan- you get the drift, there is a lot of stuff thats a lot more worth buying.
