Extraordinary Praise for Ground Zero and Beyond

Where's Osama bin Laden? Is he dead or alive? Author JP McCarthy will take you beyond 9/11 and what happened that horrific day. This action/adventure centers on Dr. Patrick Murphy, a world-renowned dental forensic pathologist, who is contacted by the FBI to identify bodies after the terrorist attacks in New York City. While heading up the dental ID section, he discovers a strange, partially burnt denture containing a miniature floppy disk belonging to the leader of the terrorist group. Through the help of his newfound love interest and computer whiz (Marion Masterson), they find out the disk contains highly sensitive planning details on the terrorist attacks that would implicate Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda organization. The problem is there are others who also want the disk, namely, bin Ladin, crooked FBI personnel, Israel's Mossad (Secret Service) and the U.S. government. After the disk is found, the chase is on! Is it Fact or Fiction? Read GROUND ZERO and BEYOND to find out!!

"Gives hope and redemption in a world gone mad. Riveting . . . a must read . . . will keep you turning the page. Can't wait for the next book with the Murphy character"-----Sasha Connelly

"Dr.(Colonel) McCarthy's debut novel is a sleek page turner chockfull of vivid characters. His expertise in dental forensics illuminates a fascinating aspect of the 9/11 tragedies. The author uses his military background and knowledge to lay the ground work for a taut thriller that explores the war on terrorism in unexplored angels."-----Troy Espe

"JP McCarthy's action/thriller, GROUND ZERO and BEYOND is an adventure filled with danger, international espionage, crooked FBI personnel and unexpected love. Almost too real to be fiction"-----Ty DeMartino

3.0 out of 5 stars Starts good, ends silly and unbelievable, June 11, 2004
By
This review is from: Ground Zero and Beyond (Paperback)
This book is a prime example of its best to write about what you know. The strongest and most interesting pieces of this novel are the forensic denistry bits. Although the details were gruesome, I was most captivated by the story when the main character was allowed to shine. The farther away from the dentistry the story gets, namely the al-Qae'da back story and the let's send the dentist and his ex-girl friend in to save the day are over written, cliched and sometimes downright hokey. This book's strongest and weakest points are one and the same: the events of September 11, 2001. The are some wonderful behind the scenes first hand knowledge that flush out the middle of the book but at the same time, the events are still so recent that the fictionalized bits stand out more than they would if the author had chosen to make up a completely fictional disaster. Perhaps in a few more years when the details have blurred more, this book will read better than it does now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing, but flawed, August 5, 2004
This review is from: Ground Zero and Beyond (Paperback)
This book is built around an interesting "what if" scenario, and does touch upon some interesting issues along the way. I also see some potential for the main protagonist to develop into an interesting franchise character. Unfortunately, this story never completely drew me in and most of the characters weren't as well developed as I would have liked to have seen. I also found myself wondering about the primary plot device--the disc. Why wouldn't the terrorist simply have destroyed it prior to implementing the plot? If they were so certain that it would have been destroyed by the crash/fire, then why was everyone searching for it afterwards? These are the kinds of questions I found bouncing around my head while reading this book.

I'll be interested in reading the planned follow up to this book. This book shows the author's potential, and I'm curious to see what he has in store for his characters. (This review was based on a pre-publication Advanced Reading Copy (ARC) of this book)
