5.0 out of 5 stars Rasta Devotional Music!, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Groundation (Audio CD)
This double disc gets more play than even Marley for me. Disc 2 has a 30 minute medley of beautiful chant after chant--all songs feature 3 to 5 people singing with harmonies, accompanied by deep rhythms and occasional spoken prayers. It's not professionals or perfectionists, so don't expect the harmonies to be perfect or the words to all be understandable. But what it is is deeply inspired spiritual music. I listen to these discs (Disc 2 especially) constantly, and am also constantly giving them away as gifts. I encourage anyone who is inspired by the devotional music of Bob Marley or any other Rasta to get this double disc. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars NYAHBINGHI ELDER CHANTS (BLESSINGS FROM THE ITES), May 23, 2006
This review is from: Groundation (Audio CD)
THIS MUSIC IS STICTLY NYAHBINGHI, THE VERY CORE ROOTS OF REGGAE MUSIC. IT'S THE FORBIDDEN MUSIC OF AFRICAN CULTURE WHICH THE SLAVE MASTERS TRIED TO BEAT OUT OF THEM, BUT WHICH THEY FAILED. FROM THE ISLAND OF JAMAICA, A SLAVE PLANTATION IN THE CARRIBEAN, BUT AS THE ELDERS IN THIS ALBUM SAY "IT IS WHERE THEY CARRIED US BEYOND OUR BORDERS" THIS IS NYAHBINGHI OF THE 1,2 ORDER. HEARTBEAT RHYTHEM. THIS FIRST RECORD RELEASED BY COUNT OSSIE IS ESSENTIAL TO ANY COLLECTION OF TRUE ROOTS REGGAE. THIS SET THE FOUNDATION OF THE LATER REGGAE ROOTS OF THE EARLY 70'S IN REGGAES "GOLDEN ERA". THIS IS THE MUSIC FROM ANCIENT TIMES. WORD, SOUND, AND POWER! FULL OF WISDOM, AND SPIRITUAL UPLIFTMENT. THERE ARE NO WEAKNESS, OR SLACKNESS ON ANY TRACK. LET BOTH CD'S JUST RIDE, AND REACH THE INNER HEIGHTS! A GIFT, A TREASURE, AND A BLESSING THIS ALBUM IS...

3.0 out of 5 stars Unusual...., March 23, 2000
This review is from: Groundation (Audio CD)
I originally bought this on vinyl when it was a triple album. It is hard to catagorize what type of music it is, or even if some of it is music at all. A strange mixture of poetry (good and bad), political and religious statements and various musical styles mainly based on bongo rythms. There are a few outstanding tracks such as a very hypnotic rendition of 'Oh Carolina'. This is an album for the curious since it is intriguing more than enjoyable.
