5.0 out of 5 stars Check your appliance Voltage Rating - Dual Voltage or Not ?
A grounded adapter or non grounded adapter only changes the pin configuration to fit inside another country's electrical outlet. An adapter does not change the voltage. You need to check your appliance's voltage to see if it is dual voltage 110 - 240 volts. If so, all you need is an adapter and they do the job fine. If the appliance rating is only for 120 volts and it...

3.0 out of 5 stars EU standard only
I purchased this adapter for a recent business trip to the U.K. Once I arrived at the first hotel in England I realized that the adapter was not going to work. I believe that it is configured to simply adapt the U.S. plug to a European Union standard (which I didn't find in England and may not be everywhere in the rest of Europe.)

Instead of this, I suggest...

5.0 out of 5 stars Check your appliance Voltage Rating - Dual Voltage or Not ?, April 5, 2007
This review is from: Grounded Europe Adapter - CE Certified - USA to Europe - Heavy Duty Adapter (Electronics)
If the appliance rating is only for 120 volts and it is not dual voltage, then you will need to buy a converter or transformer to go with the adapter. This converter ( or transformer) will then lower the incoming voltage down from 240 volts ( in Europe, Africa and most of Asia ) to 120 volts. Remember - adapters only adapt the pins, they do not change the voltage.

Voltage Converter - 0 to 50 Watt
Voltage Converter - 50 to 1600 Watt
Voltage Converter - 50 to 2000 Watt
Transformer - 85 Watt Non Grounded Light Duty
Voltage Converter - Combo (0 to 50) & (50 to1600) Watt
Voltage Surge Protector - 220 Volt
Transformer - 200 Watt Non Grounded Heavy Duty

The product name is a little off. It should be USA to some parts of Europe. The product description lists the countries in which the adapter works. I've ordered quite a few of these in the past year. They're pretty good in terms of quality. I've used these in Austria, Germany, Hungary, and France. If you plan on traveling to other countries in Europe such as the UK or Italy, you'll need additional different adapters. I've ordered the Grounded Adapter for Italy from this same company. It is equally good in terms of quality.

I have personally used this adaptor in Germany, Poland, and China. It worked well for me. As it is simply an adaptor, what more is there to say other than it worked?

5.0 out of 5 stars Grounded Adapter for France., May 9, 2007
This review is from: Grounded Europe Adapter - CE Certified - USA to Europe - Heavy Duty Adapter (Electronics)
We eventually found these type of adapters in the larger supermarkets / Hardware stores (like a superwalmart)in France but they are not common. The problem most of the people had with the French plugs is the use of 3 prong grounded electrical cords. Most of the adapters found locally only converted 2 prong US to 2 prong French and the french adapters are of a type that you could not put a 3 prong plug into them. These plugs were very helpful and I had to loan them to others that had the same problem.

Instead of this, I suggest purchasing the Sharper Image Worldwide Adapter with USB Charger. It has plug adapters for many countries including the EU prongs of this product. It is also capable of charging your USB devices such as cell phones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple plug adapter for US devices rated for dual 110-240V AC while in Europe, August 16, 2009
This review is from: Grounded Europe Adapter - CE Certified - USA to Europe - Heavy Duty Adapter (Electronics)
While in Europe (but not in Russia) this is all you need for any one device to the extent that it is rated for universal voltage of 100-240V AC.

_______________________________
WARNING!!!

- It is NOT a voltage converter. If your device is not rated for 240V chances are it WILL be destroyed so be careful.

- It is NOT a surge suppressor.
_______________________________

Most existing laptops and other electronics are this way these days but some older devices may come with a 110/240V switch so make sure that you check before you plug your device into the foreign outlet, especially if you do it into the outlet of 'higher' voltage as it happens to be the case in Europe.

On this adapter's features:

- Works as a plug converter on both sides.
- Supports both 2-prong and 3-prong US plugs.
- Do not expect any frills such as surge protection. After all, it's a cheap, simple adapter that does one thing well and nothing else.
- It's small enough to have a permanent home inside my 'traveling' laptop case.

Good product, useful when going overseas. You need to buy a voltage converter also (unless the electronic device you are using is dual voltage).

Cheap junk. Bought this for a several week business trip to Germany. My phone adapter never fit correctly in it. The laptop plug did, but it would make buzzing, arcing noises from inside this adapter. On the third day, the plastic housing just came apart, exposing the internal contacts. At least there weren't any signs of burning inside. It is in the trash now. Fortunately, I had also bought a different model adapter at the same time, or I would be looking at buying an overpriced adapter here overseas.
