4.0 out of 5 stars An exciting, catchy and rhythmic feast for the ears, June 15, 2001

This review is from: Groundrush (Audio CD)
Full of some the most kinetic rhythms and polyrhythms I've heard in quite a while, Groundrush is also quite accessible, which is quite a feat. Using an assortment of percussion, synths, and other instruments, the duo Green Isac have returned (after a lengthy absence) with an exciting fusion of electronics and primal percussive energy and exuberance. Most of the songs on the album are uptempo and meant to be cranked up (fans of Mickey Hart, take note). While one or two stray into a more quasi-experiemental (but not pointlessly so) landscape, the majority of the cuts are instantly likeable and downright catchy!

The music could probably best be described as ethno-tribal, although world music elements really only surface on one or two cuts. What is always present, though, is that unique hrybrid blend of state-of-the-art studio electronic wizardy and almost primal percussion magic. Brimming with energy and innovation, Groundrush is a great album on which to turn the volume UP! Lots of fun and a thrilling "cruising" album to boot. What more do you want?

5.0 out of 5 stars Get into the Groove, November 12, 2004

This was the first Green Isac CD I had the pleasure of hearing. I was immediately captivated by the use of African rhythm, voice dubbing and unusual instrument composition. This is one CD you can keep in your changer and hear repeatedly. If you like Patrick O'Hearn, Afro Celt, Pilgrimage or music that is played on "Echos", you'll enjoy this tasty tidbit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rush out for Groundrush!, August 15, 2001

After hearing only two tracks from this album on Musical Starstreams I knew I had to have it. It's difficult to categorize this sound, as it mixes elements of tribal, trance, ambient and techno, and in the process Green Isac creates a sound completely unto themselves. Fans of Patrick O'Hearn won't be disappointed. There are rhythms and deep textures embedded in this CD that I'd swear I've heard before, like from a half-remembered dream. It's mysterious and yet familiar. Kudos to the folks on the Spotted Peccary label for producing such an outstanding album! I look forward to hearing more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Find..., August 1, 2002

Something of a comparison: Peter Gabriel's "So"/"Us"-like rythmes meet Brian Eno's "Another Green World"/"Music for Films"...
I bought this on a whim - having seen it listed at the "Echoes" website - and have enjoyed it enough that I plan to buy their other two CD's. I hope they are as good as this one!

This is an excellent example of Norwegian creativity. I especially enjoyed the title track "Groundrush" and "Caravan"
