4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent variety!
What I like about this book is it doesn't just say 'this is the way we do things so this is how you must do it'. Instead, it gives you lots of different ideas from different people on how you can approach a particular problem. TTOUCH and TTEAM is mentioned, as well as Monty Roberts Join Up, Pat Parelli, Clicker Training, Intelligent Horsemanship and a host of others...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what expected

I totally agree with D Westhoff's review, this book is not what one would expect, and from such a 'seasoned' writer who would have the ability to do a full 'programme' of lessons. It only gives an overview of different trainer's methods and does not give a programme for groundwork training which is what I expected. The lessons that are in the book are just very...

What I like about this book is it doesn't just say 'this is the way we do things so this is how you must do it'. What this book gives you, is the information you need to find what suits you and your horse the best. I read through this and from knowing my horse's personality and how he responds to things, I chose Clicker Training, and I approached it exactly how it was shown and it worked brilliantly. It engaged my horse's mind and really helped with his entire well being. Ground work is great for bonding with your horse.

The book is laid out in clear sections, with lovely big colour pictures on every page with sub captions describing what is happening, as well as a simple yet descriptive blurb on how to approach each situation. I think the main thing to remember is you don't have to try all of these, but you will always have a reference to all of them if you ever want to.

I totally agree with D Westhoff's review, this book is not what one would expect, and from such a 'seasoned' writer who would have the ability to do a full 'programme' of lessons. It only gives an overview of different trainer's methods and does not give a programme for groundwork training which is what I expected. The lessons that are in the book are just very basic. This does not make it a bad book at all, but then I purchased it believing it would give me a progressive training session of ground work and it did not do this, I was expecting more and definitely not a series of different methods. In all, I was disappointed with this book for myself as I was expecting something different and more ongoing.

This was a great book. I don't ride my older horses anymore and this gives me alot of ideas to still keep their minds fresh and active.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational read, November 19, 2007

Groundwork Training For Your HorseI love this book! I first saw the book in the public library, but was so impressed that I decided to get it for my personal library. It provides simple groundwork ideas from many different trainers. All the trainers have the same basic philosophies in common. They all use gentle, behavioral methods. It is nice to see the best methods by the best trainers put together in one book. You can pick and choose which exercises will work the best with your horse.
