When I just listened to one of those lame twenty second clips, I had to snarf back a tear as junior high in the eighties came rushing back at me... then I stood up and kicked over a lamp and pogo'd into my wife, knocking over the potroast she'd been cooking all day. Then I ran into my convalescing father's room and jumped up and down on his bed until he leaned over and barfed on the dog.

This was one of the first albums I bought with my first slave wages at fourteen. Ask anybody, I've never gotten over it. Add "Wild In the Streets" and magically there are elbow sized holes in the dry wall and you'll be going to work with all manner of bruises from the pit you started with your wife, dog and two year old.

In 1981 I was lets see..Hmmm... 11 years old,a budding (no pun intended) guitarist myself. I was invited by my uncle and older siblings(2 sisters,1 brother) to spend the evening at L.A.s
Whisky A Go Go to see the Circle Jerks. I'd heard their debut
record,'Group Sex' blaring out of my sister's room and really
hated it. I was heavily into The Who and Led Zeppelin at the time
and we rocker type kids were split against these weird punker types in our weird suburban schools. Anyways, as I stood in line outside the Whiskey(all of 11 years old with my hip uncle) I heard the end of their first show. I recognized the song as
'Behind The Door' with the little feedback guitar part and
some kind of adreneline rush shot through me. I later saw their
show and was mesmerized the whole time. I was quickly
converted.
'Group Sex' is probably among the five best punk albums
recorded by any group. You'll laugh, you'll scream, you might
even cry. And you'll laugh knowingly because you have discovered
a record and a sound that mocks stupidity and boredom as all great humorous art does. Dare I say art? Naaahh! Let's leave that to the snobs. This record will I believe, help give you a fresh, healthy, funny outlook on a world gone mad...

This album captures a dizzy, unpredictable, violent moment in music history. It is VITAL to any historical attempts at explaining American Punk rock to anyone seeking a realistic account. The 90's Warped Tour / Green Day era has not portrayed "Punk rock" music well for the youth of today. Young generations are getting a deodorized, "Hot Topic" friendly house trained "punk rock" puppy dog. This album is the real deal... the un-domesticated wild animal that will bite you when you take it home.

Group Sex is an unapologetic, primal and sardonic ride. It 's funny. It's angry. It's also a little creepy. The 14 minute musical blast here, taps the same nerves that give young boys a rush playing with matches. It's a quick and crooked jolt of rebellious energy. "Live Fast Die Young" is the epitope of a punk rock song. Keith Morris is a scary voice in American Punk. Place this Jerks record in a Time Capsule. Someone in the future will benefit!

By far the best album to come out of the 80s HC punk scene that was taking place in L.A. Fourteen songs in sixteen minutes, each one more powerful and blistering than the last. Everyone remarks about how this album is so short. Few have commented on how beautiful the flow is. The transition between the songs is amazing, and not one of the fourteen is bad. If you haven't gotten the message yet - buy this! It's even better than "Damaged". Too bad the Jerks never came up with another album this good.

This is required listening for anyone who claims to be into hardcore/punk today. Incredible record. "Red Tape" is as good as this type of music gets. There's a CD with both Group Sex and Wild in the Streets. Group Sex is way better but it's definitely worth getting the CD with both records on it. Wild in the Streets is less fast and hectic but it's still good.

This is the Circle Jerks' best album, yet it's only about 15 min. long. The best thing to remember: Try to get the version on Porterhouse Records(Greg Hetson's(C.J. guitarist)new label), as it includes a cd-rom with a video(Target video's Beverly Hills) as well as 8 bonus tracks(5 you have to register for), and it's all great. The 14 main tracks are all amazing, under 2 min. blasts of adolescent punk rock, bratily sung by former Black Flag vocalist Keith Morris. A must own for any hardcore punk enthusiast. Killer!

Prophetic line from "Paid Vacation": It's not Viet Nam, Just Another Oil Company Scam. Salute the Flag of Uncle Sam, Get Your Money Out, Place Your Bets...
It's Afghanistan.
Amazing how a punk rock band called the Circle Jerks could understand current foreign policy better 20 YEARS AGO than most Americans do now. They must have had a time machine or something. Plus the whole album does kick some proverbial ARSE!

Clocking in at barely 16 minutes (not counting the album repeating ) this is a slice of punk rock history and hails as one of the all time classic punk albums. Opening with the 24 second "Deny Everything" makes you wanna slam dance and destroy valuable furniture. Includes also the strangely relevant "Paid Vaction"(9-11) a song written 20 years before the incident.Own this punk rockers!
