Compared to some others, he cites from a wide variety of perspectives and does not ignore groups which are not primarily therapeutic, delving into group dynamics and other foundational issues. I doesn't matter if you are a counselor, psychologist or social worker, this is a good springboard to...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointed
The seller did not check their e-mail of cancellation for product & shipped order out after the buyer cancelled. In attempting to reason with seller they were really cruel to buyer. I do not recommend purchasing anything from the bookdude while on Amazon. I ended up running all over town just because bookdude did not cancel order when buyer advised. I thought customer...

1.0 out of 5 stars Why can't you read this item on more devices?, January 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am extremely frustrated that the Kindle edition is only available on two devices after paying so much for it. It is nice to have flexibility in different situations (at home, in class, or on-the-go).

This is one of the required texts for my group counseling class. Gladding provides an excellent overview of many facets of the group process. This is an excellent resource for anyone seeking information on this subject.

Gladding starts this book with an historical overview of the development of group counseling. Then he provides an in depth view for the reader to understand the critical components for developing an effective and efficient counseling specialty group. Specific concerns and issues are presented for each major stage of group development. Gladding also distinguishes aspects of group counseling as a result of human development stages, age, maturity, and purpose for determining appropriate strategies and techniques to be use. Also addressed by Gladding, are both the ethical and multicultural aspects to be considered when developing a specialty group for counseling. This is a very insightful and helpful book for counselors-in-training!

I had purchased a NEW hard covered textbook that arrived dented and bent. I did not return the book because I had needed it for my class right away. I will rethink ever purchasing another textbook from Amazon.
