I am a DIY home owner and bought this to help make the grouting of my tile job easier/faster. I used this for a 1/4" grout lines.

There is a bit of a learning curve to this tool but once you learn it, it can really save some time.

So some tips for other newbies to this tool:

1) The most important thing I can offer is that the consistency of the grout is the most important thing. Too thick or too thin & it will not flow through the tool. It needs to be just SLIGHTLY thinner than a regular mix.

2) Make sure it is mixed VERY WELL with no lumps.

3) Also it is best to use cold water and make sure there are no lumps when you are done mixing.

4) Have a wooden chopstick handy (one that fits perfectly in the hole but sturdy enough not to break) incase you do get a clog. This will allow you to unclog the tool without having to take apart the tool.

5) Do NOT pack the grout down as you put it in the tool this can cause clogging.

6) It is also important to clean it out right away to ensure the grout flows smooth each time you use it.

Personally I used the tool just to apply the grout then used a float tool to push the grout in and smooth it over the lines.

The only downside, besides the learning curve, is that it is plastic. If you aren't careful the can break off as mine did after several uses. I have emailed the company to see if I can get a replacement tip and will update this once I get a reply.

Once I broke the tip & had to 'hand' grout the rest of the area I was working on I realized how truly useful the gun was & how much time it saved. Personally I feel it filled the lines much more efficiently!

Update:
I am not able to buy a tip alone but am able to buy a replacement tip & barrel from their site for $16.99 which is better than replacing the whole unit. So aside from not being able to buy the tip alone for a more reasonable replacement price I recommend this product... Just be careful not to break your tip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and fast...., August 29, 2010

One of the few products that I have ever purchased that works as advertised. Easy to use and speeds grouting ceramic tile, especially wall tile. Needs a smaller nozzle for small grout lines other than the rotatable tips sold for it. They're a bit long. This problem is easily rectified with a pocket knife and an empty plastic tube of caulk. A little whittling and you can turn out a nozzle that can be trimmed to just the right size for small grout lines. Screw it on and you're ready to go.

Shipment to me was very fast, I like that. A fine product that's worth the price and that really works.

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing actually works!!!, May 15, 2009

I HATE grouting ceramic tiled walls! Anyone who's done it, you know what I mean. After my last shower enclosure job, I vowed I was going to find something, ANYTHING, to make that *&$%#@! job easier to do. This is it, folks! It really does exactly what it claims to be able to do. Easy to use, and greatly speeds up the wall grouting process. And, it is actually quite easy to clean up, but I would recommend keeping an old toothbrush, or some such, handy to get under the barrel locking lugs if you've been a bit messy.

Very well made, does what its supposed to do, and easily worth the price in aggravation saved. I love this thing!

Obvious suggestion, I guess, but clean it up as soon as you're finished squirting grout...don't let it set up while you start the wash-downs. (Ask me how I know about that....)

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what i expected, June 8, 2010
This review is from: Grout Gun - Internationally Patented for Grouting and Pointing (Misc.)
So i thought here is the solution to all my issues with tuck pointing and tile work. Well not so fast, the stucko mix dries really fast because the liquid leaks through the barrel. As the result the grout is much hard to nearly impossible to push. The grout in the barrel will eventually be shaped like a cone (or takes the shape of the barrel its in).

As a result, i think the only solution is to fill the grout gun 1/2 or 1/4 of the way and then begin work asap. This has not been tested yet - but logic said it may work. Overall, not what i expected.

if you can do all of the following:
1) you can make a mix that is perfectly balanced and remains flexible enough to be squeezed (does not become hard due to loss of water)
2) you begin using it right away (make sure not to fill completely)

Otherwise, i would not recommend this tool.
