I hope this helps those having trouble:
My harp was nearly silent no matter how hard I tried to get a nice sound out of it. I played one as a kid so I knew how it was supposed to work and sound.
It turns out that the gap between the prongs was way too wide. I put the harp in a vice and squeezed it down so that the tongue (twanger) had just enough room to vibrate without hitting the arms/prongs (rougly a 1mm gap on either side). Now it sounds really great. If yours is quiet, maybe give this a try before throwing it away - good luck!

The Snoopy harps are by far the best commercially-made harps, both for sound quality and durability. They beat the dime-store dipped-in-paint ones by a long shot, though those do tend to have a wider selection in tone.

If you're new to harping, buy one of these as your first harp, but once you get familiar with it, consider one of the hand-made ones by Bill Gohring [...] they come pre-tuned to whatever you request, and I've had mine now for almost 10 years and it's never broken. Even the Snoopy harp gave up the ghost after 2-3 (but, hey, $6!). Also, ask him if he still has the bamboo harps -- they're a definite challenge to play, but what fun!

This was my first jaw harp to purchase and has been working just fine for a few years now.

This is my first jaw harp,so it took me a while to get the sound from it,but once I did,I really enjoyed it.Well worth the price.

i don't know what those bad reviews are talking about this jews harp is great and i get a pretty good sound out of it

I got this harp first and got pretty good at it...but then i bought the Trophy Alto Jaw Harp. MAJOR IMPROVEMENT. The snoopy harp is very rigid and you have to press it against your teeth very hard for it to work. If you mess up or slip it will whip your teeth so hard.

I thought this was normal because the snoopy was my first harp. Anyway, I bought the Trophy Alto next...SO much better. I can relax more and not have to worry about keeping it smashed up against my teeth. It doesn't even hurt if it whips my teeth because it is a lighter piece of metal.

The alto for me is a much better sound too. Much more twangy and energetic sounding. The snoopy harp is pretty low and bassy.

sidenote: I bought 2 snoopy harps so i know it wasn't just a defective one.

There isn't much to say...

It works.

It's cheep.

It's fun.

Just be careful when playing. Keep your teeth out of the way.

I LOVE this Jew's harp! My grandpa used to play one when he was little and I bought one to play along side him. it's so fun!!!

when you get this harp check the gap between the arms and tongue, you should have not much more than a millimeter or so, also check that the tongue is centered between the arms, lastly when holding it don't touch the base of the tongue where it connects to the body or you will deaden the sound, also when playing keep a gap between your upper and lower teeth or you will learn why this is called the tooth gapper. this particular harp isn't too bad, heck for the price it is outstanding, but once you decide you want to learn how to play you will want a more responsive one, several companies sell excellent ones in the 25 to 45 dollar range.

I played a mouth harp when I was a kid and wanted one then but never had one of my own.
Recently I saw one on a western show and it reminded me to look for one again.
After checking around Amazon I found this one and ordered it, it got here fast and after
about 2 minutes I was playing it and having fun. Great buy for the price.
