This book is easy to read and very comprehensive. It tells you now to grow, harvest, and use herbs. It covers some of my favorite herbs, ie., yarrow, St Johns Wort, comfrey, lemon balm, calendula, chamomile.....and many more. I made several herbal syrups from their recipes. These will be comforting and healing through our coming winter.....which is predicted to be a very cold winter.
I recommend this book to all herbalists.....beginners especially....because it tells you from beginning to end.....how to use herbs for healing.

One thing I like about this book over other herbal healing books is the authors cite actual research for the healing claims, however, it ought to have a bibliography in the back with complete source information. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. The authors have strong credentials in this subject, though.

Also very helpful are some reference charts for the plants they talk about in more detail in the beginning of the book. The charts list growing requirements as well as uses for the herbs. There is a chapter on how to make specific plant preparations such as tinctures, oils, and dried teas. With each detail page on a specific herb, they list safety precautions too. In the last chapter, "Heal It," they recap some of the information from previous chapters but it's listed by ailment, and include other, non-herbal recommendations for treatment or alleviation of symptoms.

DR. CHRISTOPHER HOBBS is a fourth-generation, internationally renowned herbalist, licensed acupuncturist, author, clinician, botanist, mycologist, and research scientist with over 35 years of experience with herbal medicine.

Whether you are an herb newbie, a Master Herbalist or just curious in natural healing, this book is a great addition to your collection. It goes through some of the most common garden herbs and thoroughly discusses each. Covering the herb description, preparations and dosage, healing properties, safety, harvesting, and good growing tips. The colorful photos and layout makes this fun and easy to read and uses simple medical terms in discussing treatments. I find it very practical and certainly lovely enough to have out on the coffee table.

For the price and size this is quite a nice book The picture quality inside have the heavier glossy pages which make the pictures and descriptions so much better. Only thing better; be there in the kitchen with them (: Christopher Hobbs is a broad herbal background, interesting speaker and herbalist. Great purchase if you are thinking to grow and make your own herbal remedies.

There are so many helpful/healing herbs in this book, I wish I had bought it earlier. Nonetheless, I am going to start my own herb garden and look forward to the healing properties they possess. This book has actually spurred me to take some herbal courses online - if I'm going to be recommending any of these herbs to family members and friends, I figure I need to be educated in it - I can't be giving advice and be ignorant at the same time!

The book features herbs, how to grow them, and their medicinal uses. The information on how to plant/nourish the herbs is not comprehensive; this is not a gardening book so much as a guide to herbs. However, it meets my personal needs. The book came in the condition that I expected: new.
