Grow Up is a Wow!,
By
This review is from: Grow Up! (Board book)
Author illustrator Nina Laden delivers a clever concept book in eye-catching acrylics. In simple patterned text and peekaboo windows, children will discover what different living things grow up to be. A playful kitten watches two orange and black fish swimming in a tank. The fish are drawn inside a window. Turn the page and the fish become eyes of a grown cat. Some of the figures may be familiar to your child, like the kitten or a puppy. Others may be delightfully fresh, such as a tadpole or a seedling. Square in shape, this board book is perfectly sized for eager little hands. The mirror on the last page reflects your little one's face that is sure to be smiling! When we discovered this book, my girls (aged 3 yrs 9 mos and 2) asked me to read it again and again. I knew I had a hit! We plan to search for Laden's previous books as well.

Grow Up with Great Books !,
By Jenah "nwmama" (Kenmore, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Grow Up! (Board book)
I was so excited to find out that Nina Laden had come out with another board book. My 22 month old daughter really loves this new one and has practically memorized it. (She has already loved to death Peek-a-Who and Ready, Set, Go!)At this age, my daughter is beginning to grasp the concept of little to big. It's a lot of fun to see her apply what she has learned from Grow Up! to the world around her. She is currently fascinated with differentiating babies and big girls, and from the number of times I have had to clean her kisses and nose prints off the book she obviously can't get enough of being a "big girl." My daughter and I love the illustrations in this book (as with all of them); they are vivid, playful and clever. We have had a lot of fun making up silly guesses as to what is on the next page, and although we have read the book a couple hundred times now, she still gets excited to turn the page and announce what the image has grown up to be. I would recommend this book concept-wise for children over eighteen months, but because there is so much to look at and talk about in the book I would also highly recommend it for any age.

Mesmorizing,
By
This review is from: Grow Up! (Board book)
While my 6-month old's attention may wander during readings of other board books, she is absolutely mesmorized by Nina Laden's Grow Up!, Peek-a-Who!, and Ready, Set, Go! She will sit, enraptured, through multiple readings at a time. She loves the simple rhymes and vivid patterns. This book is a must-have for every young infant!

I got my daughter Peek-A Who? when she was a few months old and it quickly became one of only two books that we read to her every night. (The other, just FYI, is Counting Kisses.) When I discovered that Nina Laden had written a few other books, I ordered them all, and this one is by far my favorite. My daughter loves the illustrations, cut outs and simple story, and my husband and I enjoy reading it to her because it's fun to look at and it's easy to embellish the story with our own additions, which keeps it fun. This is the book with which my daughter learned to turn pages herself because she was so interested in seeing what's behind the cut outs. Highly recommend.

One year old likes--board book with holes,

Like other Nina Laden books, this board book has holes. These holes are very appealing to infants in terms of their ability to flip the pages. This story also makes sense, unlike the other Nina Laden books.
In this book, a tadpole becomes a butterfly, a chick becomes a chicken, a tadpole becomes a frog, a kitten becomes a cat, and a puppy becomes an old dog. I give this 4 stars because while my one year old enjoys it, it is not a favorite like Brown Bear, Brown Bear or the lift the flap Spot book.Where's Spot? (Lift-the-flap Book) . I also highly recommend her book, Peek a Zoo, especially for infants under 1.Ready, Set, Go!Peek-A Who?

I wasn't as impressed with the "story" in this one, I like the rhymes of Peek a Who and Ready Set Go, better. But my toddler really loves the peek a boo pages that she can turn by grabbing the 'hole' in the middle of the page.

We got this book for our 11 month old who wanted to read "Peak a Who" six times a day in an effort in create some sort of book rotation. While she likes it, it has not replaced "Peak a Who" but she does pick "Grow Up" out of the stack several times a week. We also bought "Baby Danced the Polka" which is a new favorite (parent favorite too!) and "Dear Zoo" which is very popular with her too!
