4.0 out of 5 stars Good-yet-radical ideas for growing your fanbase
The goal of this book is to show bands and artists how to get more people to shows, win more fans, keep club owners happy and build a strong grassroots foundation for their music career. I've employed some of these techniques myself for my own shows, and can attest that they work, although you may need to tailor them to your situation. In particular, I like the fact that...

1.0 out of 5 stars Calling all simpletons
I thought this book was a HUGE waste of money.

The 'book people' were great and the customer service was awesome - I give them a thumbs up and a five star rating... but the book, itself, is full of ideas that would only appeal to a first-grader. It is a humiliating mockery to all seriously talented musicians. Big thumbs down and a half-star for this book, and pity the...

This review is from: Grow Your Band's Audience (Paperback)
The goal of this book is to show bands and artists how to get more people to shows, win more fans, keep club owners happy and build a strong grassroots foundation for their music career. I've employed some of these techniques myself for my own shows, and can attest that they work, although you may need to tailor them to your situation. In particular, I like the fact that I'm getting MUCH better ROI on the money I spend on promotion now than before I read Joe's book.

At first read, the ideas Joe sets forth seem pretty radical, especially to an artist who is heads-down in their own work. This is essentially a book about customer service, and deals primarily with fulfilling the basic needs and want of fans, club owners, music writers and radio DJs. Digesting these lessons require the musician to put ego aside and focus on strategies that have little to do with music and everything to do with human behavior. For the strategies to really work, you may need to reverse your thinking about the relationship between you (the artist) and the potential fanbase that awaits you.

Recommended for serious, career-minded artists hoping to create a sustainable, long-term music career.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a difference, January 21, 2003

When you look into the sands of musicians on the beach of entertainment you wonder how and why you are important. How will you make a difference and be heard. What Joe write's puts all of that in perspective. Pick up a copy and you will be one step closer to gettiing what you want. A voice, a shell, possibly the coast! This book set me on a solid course for career gaols.

It is a humiliating mockery to all seriously talented musicians. Big thumbs down and a half-star for this book, and pity the poor musicians that are so under-talented that they have to resort to bribery and extortion to get an audience.

Your money is better spent on getting your band's name repeatedly out there and in front of the people so that it becomes familiar and recognized ... As with familiarity grows validity.
