Product Description

The STC Ultimate Vegetable Grower makes it easy to grow vegetables without any waste and without the use of pesticides. The superstructure is fixed by a wire, which is mounted diagonally and the bed is made from 25 mm PVC. After sowing, all you need to do is water during dry weather and you can enjoy watching your plants grow. The limited amount of weeds appearing in the bed can be pulled up easily with your fingers. No gardening tools are needed. When you have experienced the joy of home-grown lettuce or lovely worm-free peas, your appetite will be whetted. Ultimate Vegetable Grower provides ample opportunities for growing all kinds of vegetables for the benefit and enjoyment of you and your family. PVC materials have UV protection, however heavy sun influence may cause fading. All materials are weatherproof. Measures 4 feet by 4 feet by 5 feet.

I was one of the first to purchase one of these systems in late 2008. I purchased the 4'x8'. It arrived in early 2009, it was easy to put together, although it does require two people to do so. To add to the experience I began adding accessories .... I installed a drip and sprayer system into it. A 'no worry' event so I wouldn't have to be around to water during critical periods. And to overcome late day shade issues (related to its placement on our property, I added grow lights attached to the center upper bar. Perfection!

Since early 2009, once we had all the veges growing and sprouting and such ...it's proved itself to be a wonderful experience. More importantly, to ensure healthy fast growing crops I used high quality soil. We've had no hassles with weather, yard critters and few insects (with the exception of aphids) resulting in massive quantities of veges. In late 2010, once they FINALLY became available I also purchased (2) growing trays that rest upon the upper frame supports. A wonderful addition to deal with so you can start seedlings and rotate crops with ease or place potted plants on these trays to protect them. But the fun stopped there....

As time went on the screens developed significant wear and began to rip in different areas. The Velcro that attaches the screens began to lose its grip. And the heavy duty plastic, (an option that isn't sold with most units but I purchased with it), meant to protect the plants from cold or as a wind barrier, also began to break down and fall apart. I expected this to happen. Sun, wind, cold, ect does that to materials and plastic and I more than understand these items won't last forever but.....

You can not find replacements anywhere! No where!

Where I live, the "critters" are likely to get into your garden. This unit solved my problem. The netting is kept in place with velcro and is protective. No critter got into this. Safe from deer and more. Also, I only needed to weed this one time all summer. The net kept the weeds out as well. They say you can start seedlings in Feb with this. We'll see. I got mine in May, so this coming Feb will be my first attempt with seedlings. Note this thing takes a LOT of dirt. I have a double unit (4' x 8'). Some people have complained about setting it up, but I thought the picture instructions were accurate. For me, the hardest thing setting it up was to get the ground level; I live in a hilly area. Some advice: follow their picture instructions precisely. I added a few connectors where I thought they should go, even though the directions did not show any there. Later in the assembly process, I discovered those connectors not only weren't necessary, but were in the way. Thankfully, they included some extra connectors, so I didn't run out. I am pleased with my purchase.

I bought mine (plus an extension) almost exactly a year ago. I live in the mountains in Southern California and got it as replacement for a CSA subscription that did not supply the vegetables we like to eat.
It was fine to assemble but as summer wore on, some of the parts warped in the sun and the glue that holds the velcoro on the screens ran. It was still usable though.
Then winter started and we had a few small snow falls and it stood up okay. Then a week ago, we had about a foot of snow and the entire thing collapsed, breaking several key joints. For over $700, this is unacceptable. I will contact the people who sell them tomorrow and see what they say. I hope it comes with a 1 year warranty, but doubt it.
I will revise this review as the process continues.

We purchased this product three years ago excited that it would be ideal for our cold winters and hot summers in the high desert. It was easy to assemble and the first growing season it worked well. By the second growing season, the plastic covers had shrunk and we could not stretch them to attach to the Velcro fasteners, so they only partially did the job of protecting seedlings from frost, as long as it was not windy. This immediate past winter the snow load collapsed the roof and broke the corner posts making the enclosure system unusable -- we left the screens on to protect fall plantings but to allow moisture -- probably a big mistake. It is now a very expensive raised bed! We have yet to find out if replacement parts are available for the enclosure but even if they are, we are not sure it will be worth the cost.
