Powerful tips to help raise Godly children, January 24, 2012
This review is from: Growing Great Kids: Partner with God to cultivate His purpose in your child's life (Paperback)
I typically won't write a review on a book that I haven't finished yet but I knew this blog tour was supposed to be posted today, even though I didn't receive my book until Friday. I read as fast as I could, being gone all weekend and was able to get through the first 1/2 of the book. So far it is amazing and that is why I decided to write this.
She starts out the book by telling the story of who she is and what her childhood was like along with what her husband's childhood was like. I really related to her story. She talks about how her parents never really encouraged her to pursue her dreams and talents because they figured if she was good enough to accomplish it on her own then she would eventually figure it out. I really related to that. My parents didn't discourage me but they never encouraged me either. There was no motivation in my family to pursue anything and therefore I never had high standards for my life.
She then goes in to tell you the ways scripture encourages us on how to raise our kids. She uses amazing scripture verses to make her points. At the end of each chapter she gives you questions to answer that help you think about your parenting style and find the things you can improve on. Then she has a prayer to read that relates to what she has talked about.
So far the most convicting chapter has been about the destruction our tongue can have on our children. I used her tip about reminding your kids that they are the best with everything they try and I was amazed at the response from my children. For example; I told my son last night that his muscles were getting bigger from all the hard work he does and he is becoming so strong. I then used this technique again when he was worried about bad dreams at bedtime. I told him that he was so strong and brave that I KNEW he could defeat the bad dreams!! Guess what happened....he slept through the night without any bad dreams or waking me up for the first time in 3 weeks!! Words are power!! Speaking encouragement to your kids can boost them in confidence!!
I think that any Christian parent out there would benefit from this book, whether your kids are still on the way or you are getting ready to be a grandparent, this book would be helpful to have at your side!
Thank you to FIRST Wild Card Tours for the free book in exchange for my personal and honest opinion. All opinions are my own!
