I have seen this book make an incredible difference in hundreds of lives. We have given away over 2500 copies of this book over the past 10 years at the Divorce Recovery Workshop which I lead (at Canton First Friends Church and at Willoughby Hills Friends Church). I have received very positive feedback from people who have read this book. Many have read the book over several times as a lifeline that helped keep their heads above water. Many pass their copies on to others who need a helping hand, too.

This book will be a good investment if you want to heal, recover, and grow. The choice that is offered to you in this book is: you can just go through your divorce, or, you can grow through it.

I have known hundreds who have done so, with the help of Jim Smoke's book, Growing Through Divorce.

The stats show that 50% of marriages end in divorse. I never thought I'd be a stat. Divorse is something we hear about, but know nothing about. We can either "go through it," or choose to "Grow Through It." I choose the later and have not regretted it.

Jim Smoke's book is a real world, roll up your sleeves source of balanced advice. Each chapter lays out the "real issues" that you need to be aware of. And each chapter ends with questions that you need to answer. These questions and your answers are what differentiates this book from any other on the market. Jim Smoke has been working with divorce recovery for some 20 years. His compassionate insights are incredibly helpful for those facing the pain of divorce. Jim helps the person, step by step, through what is likely the most painful time of his/her life. I'm using this book in my Divorce Recovery support group. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Growing Through Divorce was a book I used one weekend in early 1983, to read and study along with a lot of prayer in making my final decision after many years in an abusive marriage and being miserable.

I was Determined that I would NOT be a divorce statistic for many years! I took my vows seriously! I never wanted a divorce! I didn't want to fail in this marriage nor did I want to disappoint God.

After a very relaxing weekend with some intense prayer, reading, LISTENING TO GOD and learning about our marriage, I came to peace with what I had to do; I came feel God's blessing in it all too.

I always keep at least 2 copies of this book for anyone who is even having a problem marriage as it also includes information on HOW TO LIVE WITH or understand aspects of the 7 typical couple types who end in divorce. I learned alot about myself and have had known friends who were able to salvage their marriage after reading this FIRST TOO.

AFTER my divorce, was involved in a wonderful Study Group at church we called, SOS = Starting Over Single.... another one of Jim Smoke's good books.

Our HOPE...a ministry for divorced women at church is using "Growing Through Divorce" as a conversation starter for our small group and it is working. The topical chapters are designed to encourage us to start talking in a positive, forward moving direction. The "working guide" at the back of the book offers encouraging Christian reflections that are healing for those of us who are/have experienced the painful divorce process.

I bought this book shortly after my own divorce; it helped me than and it keeps on helping me! Thank you, Jim Smoke, for such an honest look at the problems and difficulties we face in recovering from this kind of trauma. I have heard that a new edition may be coming out --- if so, that's great, but this edition is still useful to anyone who is divorced. I give this book my highest possible recommendation.

I found this book useful, but most of the value could be condensed to a shorter text. One thing readers should understand (not evident from the book jacket or the excerpts) is that this book has a very strong emphasis on the Christian faith as it relates to one's experience of divorce. If you look at the other posted reviews, you will see that the greatest value was derived from people who shared this cultural background. As someone of another faith, I found that I skipped over at least 50% of the text because it did not apply to me.

I was referred to this book by a friend who read it when she had gone through her divorce. This definitely helped me consider some things that I hadn't thought about and helped me to understand that sometimes there is just nothing you can do to prevent a divorce when the other party wants it. I will probably reread the book to get more from it to continue my growth. I have also asked my fiance to read it before we marry to help him understand where I am. Thank you for your insight and help. I have recommended these books to my friends who are walking this same pathway.

This book definitely helped me while experiencing my divorce. Currently, I am still in the process of finalizing it and have been having a rough time because my spouse wanted the divorce, whereas I did not. It helps you process some things, realize you will get through it in the end, and have more faith in yourself. I can say it was rough initially and broke me down. However, it was worth it because it is building me up.

This is a very interesting and informative book. It was an easy read and has a great perspective.
