Book Description

May 1, 2012 Voices of Faith
Julie Ziglar Norman often says her dad is the king of 'doing life right' and she is the poster child for 'doing life wrong.'

For over a quarter of a century she lived every day with regret, shame, guilt, and depression. But she was the daughter of the motivator's motivator, Zig Ziglar, and knew that she needed to be positive. So she gathered up all her negative self-talk and squashed it deep down inside where it couldn't ruin the bright and practiced smile she presented to the world.

'People might assume Zig Ziglar's daughter would automatically grow up to have a positive attitude,' Julie says. 'For a large portion of my life, I was just positive I was miserable!'

Her powerful and heartwarming story will move readers to laughter and tears. Mostly it will renew their faith in God's power to redeem all the wrong choices and bring them full circle to hope and healing. Julie urges readers not to settle for okay when God has true joy waiting for them. She shares tools to equip them to make the changes needed to find true freedom in every area of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a work of love! April 30, 2012
Format:Paperback
Since Julie Ziglar Norman is my wife I openly admit to being her # 1 fan and chief supporter. Regardless of this conflict of interest, I am moved to share why I think every woman should consider reading this book.

First, you should know that everything important I have learned about women I learned from Julie. I have learned about the broken dreams, needs and expectations of women. I have learned about the loneliness women feel when spiritual intimacy is lost with their mate. I have learned about the emotional price women pay for the guilt and shame of their past. I also learned and have witnessed how a broken and damaged girl can be transformed into a woman who is a bright light of hope for others in emotional pain. Most importantly, after years of getting it wrong, I eventually learned how to become the kind of husband and partner God always wanted Julie to have (you can find out all about that in the book too - although I remain a work in progress).

From the beginning, Julie's guiding vision for Growing Up Ziglar was to transparently share her life so that all women could be empowered to successfully travel a path of restoration from heartache to hope. In one sense, Growing Up Ziglar is every woman's story, yet it is uniquely Julie's story. Many women have made the same bad choices Julie made, but few women have so openly and transparently described the soul-wrenching consequences those choices produced in their lives. Throughout the writing process Julie frequently asked me, "I want to say this in the book...is it OK with you?" I agreed to everything she wrote and it is all there for the world to see. It is Julie's transparent honesty that is so captivating and it is also the ingredient that infuses the book with restorative power.

Growing Up Ziglar is about family and honestly presents the challenges every American family faces today. It has it all: Step-children, adopted children, alcoholism, divorce, estrangement, blended families, death, grief, conflict, guilt, shame and spiritual frustration (and MORE)! However, Growing Up Ziglar also presents authentic solutions only found by faith through the grace of God. If you are a woman seeking peace, joy and contentment in your life I promise you will find it in this book.

PS: If you are a man who would like to find out how to help your mate become all God intends her to be - this book will give you needed clarity on the matter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Honesty so appreciated! May 3, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is an extremely fast and interesting read. The author is transparent with her past in hopes of helping others to overcome their past failures too. Only with God's grace and forgiveness is this truly possible.

For those of you who have never heard of Zig Ziglar he may be one of the most prominent motivational speakers of our time. With a seemingly perfect father, it made Julie feel even more self-loathing and shame for not making all of the good choices she knew she should. Many of us feel like we can't turn to God until we are in a good place and near perfect, but that is not the case. He takes us exactly where we are now! We need to not just have the knowledge of what sin is, but what God's grace is and is capable of.

Even if you have not personally lived through all of the heartaches Julie has, there is something for everyone to gleam from this book. It is a book that will give the reader hope for their life and the lives of their loved ones. Transformation is possible!

Summerside Press/Guideposts sent me the above books for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the books. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Summerside Press.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book May 2, 2012
Format:Paperback
I just finished reading Growing Up Ziglar and am still emotional over it. I've laughed and I've cried. I've related several events in my own life to what Julie has gone through. It gave me a better understanding of myself. Most of us probably have things in our lives that we wish we could take back or do over. This book gave me the comforting knowledge that God is with me no matter what bad decisions I've made in the past. I think this is a wonderful book for women to read but it wouldn't hurt men to read it, too. I definitely give it a five star rating.
