Excellent resource for cold region herb gardeners,

This review is from: Growing & Using Herbs in the Midwest: A Regional Guide for Home Gardeners (Paperback)
I am new to herb gardening, and to the Midwest. This book has been an excellent resource. I've been herb gardening in Zone 3 for 3 years now.The only drawback I can see is that I would like more specific information on each plant. But it has a lot of information about herbs that grow here, plus tips on gardening naturally. It also includes interesting factoids on herbs throughout history. I highly recommend this to up and coming gardeners!

For anyone new to herb gardening in USDA Zones 3-6, this book is a great start. Plant profiles for common culinary herbs, and a month-by-month guide to cultivation, make this a perfect reference for new 'herbies.' My only wish would be for some great photos of seedlings, mature plants, and harvesting, which would be especially helpful to folks who are new to herbs. Whenever anyone in one of my herb classes asks about a good book, this is the one that I recommend.

If you live on the Tundra, like I do, where the growing season is short, this is a great resource for those interested in growing their own herbs. Practical information and well organized.

This book was somewhat helpful. It helped me with about 3 or 4 herbs that I wanted to grow in my Michigan garden. It did not give but about 15 herbs and how to take care of them. and they were not the normal herbs that people grow either.

Exciting and comprehensive, this book is great not only for the Midwest gardener, but for any grower interested in great natural gardening concepts such as composting, container gardening, herb growing and gardening with the seasons - indoors and out. A fantastic and fun read, this book is one you'll reach for over and over again.
