Growing Your Business in Emerging Markets,
By A Customer
This review is from: Growing Your Business in Emerging Markets: Promise and Perils (Hardcover)
This is a great book and I should know since I work in the field. I consult with over 100 companies each year as they try to enter international markets. The book is NOT a college textbook. It is NOT a book of theory about international markets and why you need to be there. Both authors obviously have been there and done it and they share some very good practical experience with the reader. The first several chapters are excellent background about international markets and the value of participating and where we will likely be in the future. Once the reader understands that he/she can't just stop with their domestic market, the authors share some extremely valuable information about how to locate a distributor and considerations about signing and supporting their overseas partner. It is a highly practical book geared to the VP or Director of Marketing -- a must on their book shelf. Even those who have already begun the process of exporting should consider the book because I'm certain they don't have the checklists that the authors provide -- it can only reduce their future risks, frustrations and expenses. And, with the value of the book already established, I must add that I found the accompanying stories made it very entertaining reading.Highly worthwhile! JJN

This book is the "How to" reference necessary when taking your business into emerging markets. This is a must read! You will learn how to escape the perils while discovering creative maneuvers to realize strategic opportunities. Global Manifest Destiny (GMD) provides great insight to man's adventurous desire to forge new markets. GMD presents this insightful scenario as core to human development. Thank you Caslione and Thomas for bringing us this extremely useful guide.

This book should be read by any executive planning to enter emerging markets, or by those already operating in them. It covers all aspects to a depth rarely found in business books. It is not just a superb read, it is also a guide and reference source full of "how to". We will use it in our organization as a "must" training material.

This review is from: Growing Your Business in Emerging Markets: Promise and Perils (Hardcover)
This book is a genuine treasure trove of invaluable hands-on insights and tips for anyone interested in doing business in the emerging markets. I have over 30 years experience in these markets and I still found many helpful ideas and approaches. Caslione and Thomas share real world perspectives and knowledge. This is no academic dissertation; it is the product of know-how accumulated from actually doing what the authors talk about. No matter whether you're just starting out in international business or consider yourself an expert, you will gain much benefit from this book. Get it! You will learn much and avoid repeating the costly mistakes made by countless American, Japanese, and European companies.

This book allows a reader both in the USA/Australia to have a check list of what to do in emerging markets. This means being able to do some valuable research before committing resources into a new country. Also the book is an easy read and provides a common sense approach throughout each chapter. A must read for anyone doing business in I believe both mature and emerging markets away from the USA/Australia business environment.

From Cradle to Gorilla,
By Denzyl O'Donoghue (Johannesburg, South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Growing Your Business in Emerging Markets: Promise and Perils (Hardcover)
Being fortuanate to participate and live through a radical period of transition in our country (South Africa)and to witness the metamorphosis of an emerging market, John et al's book provides invaluable guidelines, history and analytical wisdom to assist us in our way forward. One of the pitfalls that the authors most strongly forewarn the reader against is the creation of "gorillas", meaning that if the strategic option of utilising distributors in the emerging market is chosen, then one should take care not to empower these distributors to the extent of creating a monster that is difficult to control. John provides a "toolkit" to assist the reader in preventing such creations and this kit has on a number of occassions proved most useful. The book is written with experience and real examples or case studies of specific events are offered as testimonials. I found the book to be down to earth and real and without doubt a book that many companies in emerging markets could benefit from. |
