Growing Old with B.C.: A 50 Year Celebration is a retrospective and tribute to the long-lived, multiple award-winning newspaper comic strip B.C., starring a gaggle of cavemen and two strong-willed cavewomen. B.C.'s creator and artist Johnny Hart himself designed the cover and engaged in the first round of edits before he passed away. Growing Old with B.C. is more than anthology of the best of the best B.C. strips in the past 50 years; photographs and brief interviews with Hart's friends - many of whom were the direct inspiration for the comic strip's core characters - a short biography of Hart, and even a brief introduction by Hart's wife round out this collection. A sidesplitting overview of Hart's laughter-steeped life's work, and an excellent giftbook for anyone who reads the comic strip page first in the newspaper.

Some of the best Comic humor I have seen in years. This is the best of Johnny Hart. Book is easy to read and well displayed. Very clever and nostalgic. By the way, there is no religious gags in the entire book.

Johnny Hart's Growingold with B.C., A 50 Year Celebration, is absolutely excellent. I have read B.C. each morning since 1960 and it has always given me a smile for the day. Thanks Johnny for all your talents that you have shared with us. We miss you very much, but we are thankful you have passed this wonderful cartoon strip to your children, so it can be continued. Thanks for letting me keep smiling each morning.

Bought this for my father for Christmas as he has always enjoyed B.C. and often saves his favorite strips. Great read for anyone who loves the comic strip. Only issue I have with the book is that the writer seems to skirt around Johnny Hart's religious centered comics in leu of a more p.c. collection of pieces. Hart wasn't ashamed of his beliefs... why should a tribute to him ignore his statements of faith? Perhaps I missed the relevant comics as I only skimmed through the book. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

From 1958 until his passing in 2007, Johnny Hart wrote and drew one of the best cartoon strips ever seen in the newspapers of the world, the very funny and hip cartoon entitled: B.C.

By the mid sixties the only daily comic strip bigger than B.C. and Johnny's second strip (with Brent Parker) The Wizard of Id, was Charles M. Schulz's; Peanuts. The crafty and wild antics of these kooky cavemen sometime seem a bit more modern than the average Joe of 25,000 years ago. Peter, Thor, Clumsy Carp, Curls, Wiley, Fat Broad, Cute Chick, The Ants, The Anteater, Grog, The Dinosaurs and B.C. are the cast of this rocky land of laughs and fun.

With the best wise-cracks and sight-gags found in any cartoon out there, B.C. is quite simply one of the funniest comic strips of last five decades. Johnny Hart has won every major award for cartooning that there is to win. Johnny, was syndicated throughout the planet and featured in thousands of newspapers. This book chronicles the long story of this bunch from the very begining up until the final strips that Johnny produced.

For five decades this cartoon was at the top of hundreds of strips published daily. B.C. is a real wonderful cartoon and my wish would be that Johnny was still here with us, producing this great gem.

There's no shortage of books compiling comic strips to buy and/or read. When I was much younger, I devoured Doonsebury books whenever I had the chance, amazed to discover what usually required waiting every day to read could be found in large volumes. I have recently read, however, one very special book regarding a very special cartoonist and his cartoon: GrowinGold with B.C. A 50 Year Celebration of Johnny Hart. I highly recommend it.

(One item to note: most of the time people refer to the title as "Growing Old With B.C." The cover spells it "GrowinGold," which, from what I've seen from Checker Publishing, is the correct title.)

Unlike some Herculean efforts to put together gargantuan books containing every cartoon in a strip's history, this book is very direct and personal. The author himself compiled it, shortly before he passed away. It contains selections of his favorite strips from each decade the strip has been in existence, right up to the present. Think of it as a combination Best Of and Director's Cut.

The first section of the book features comments from the friends upon whom the characters were based. What's amazing to me is, not only does it appear Johnny Hart kept in touch with most or all these friends from the 1950s, they wrote jokes and gags for the series throughout its entire history. Clearly Hart was a man with a rich sense of humor who surrounded himself with similarly blessed people.

Part of the magic of B.C. was it was funny to look at, not just to read. Even my five-year-old son has enjoyed this book, especially the cover, which depicts B.C. as he was drawn from the beginning of the strip to now, ranging from short and stout to tall and less stout. He takes great pleasure in describing how "the man is growing" from picture to picture.

GrowinGold with B.C. would make an excellent gift for yourself or anyone you know. It's very reasonably priced and bring pleasure to friends and family this Christmas season.

I love cartoons. Johnny Hart is amoung the best of the modern cartoonist and B.C. is one of the best strips. The history and comments accompanying the cartoons are just a bonus.

I've been a Hart fan for years. This collection is a great celebration of his humor. Great price and free shipping with Amozon.

I've always been a huge fan of B.C. I've been collecting B.C. books since 1969. This book is a great collection of the classics and the newer strips. The text at the front of the book which describes the history of the strips and the characters behind the characters makes this an invaluable addition to any fan's library.

I don't enjoy many comics but truly enjoyed this book. I took my time reading it over several evenings and savored every minute of it. This is one that I will pull out and reread again and again.
