Skavoovies has really done it for me over the years. I remember seeing them for the first time at age 15, playing down in ft. lauderdale over the christmas break. Old man of the mountain sold it for me, and I was hooked evere since. if Fat Footin was great, Ripe was a leap beyond. And now with the Growler, I can only imagine where there music will go from here. The growler has an almost experimental Ska sound to it, blending a seemless upbeat sound into an almost experimental Jazz style. Songs like "Desert Gold" And "Sharp Teeth" will get "the boogy in your bones". It's extremely danceable, and I would go so far as to say it's probably one fo the best Ska releases of the year, this year and last. Too bad they didn't release "9 dragons" on this comp. It's easily one of their best songs.

This isn't your average ska band... These guys are one of the most talented I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Basically, its upbeat "Trad" ska. Musically, they're at their best on this CD. If you liked RIPE, you'll love The Growler. Skavoovie is my favorite band - no question. They simply wow me.

To be honest, when I first heard this album,I was dissapointed. I'm a ska purest, and Skavoovies use of vocals on nearly every song therew me. But, after listening to it a few time, I was blown away. The vocals aside, the music is the best the Epitones have ever bealted out. Now, it makes me shake, because it is so damn good.
