Good mix of his classic and new sounds,
This review is from: Growls Garden Ep (Audio CD)
This is a fine EP, mixing some of his finest melodic moments with his newer, Turning Dragon-style clubby tracks. I still much prefer the classic sounds, which is why I really like Growls Garden, Distant Father Torch and Farewell Mining Town. Seaweed is a pretty nice track as well, and is reminiscent of some Aphex Twin's Analord works. The only track that pains me to listen to is Gonk Roughage, which reminds me of some lame 90's house.
Very nice EP overall. Clark just has a style and sound that is still unmatched. There is nothing he's come out with that is run of the mill.

Christopher Steven Clark is a vanguard within the electronica genre. I bestow upon Clark the highest possible praise. I shall continue to purchase his work for as long as he creates it.

Happy electro-glitch funtime,

Ear-tickling, joyously raw and wickedly inventive. This feels like the raucous offspring of a Freescha and Aphex Twin mind-meld. It's Casino Versus Japan with ADD. And a bag of M&Ms.
What is perhaps most striking about Clark's compositional style is that the music doesn't hang about; it's amorphous, ever-changing and seeks to reinvent itself from measure to measure, if not from beat to beat. An electro-glitch, trippity hoppity fun house that is satisfyingly capped by a moment of aching solitude. |
