About the Author

About Vance "Ronin" Gatlin I'm a blogger and one of the authors and the publisher of Howls From The Wolfpack. A man who's looked deep inside and forged himself into a self-reliant, independent critical thinker who is building on the theme of the first book and bringing it more into the realm of changing the world, by challenging the status quo and showing you all sides of the arguement. Be it politics, hot bed issues, and day to day life. Author's webpage: http://roninsjourney.wordpress.com Facebook Page: http://facebook.com/RoninAbyss

More About the Author

Self-published author Ronin has co-written and written 2 hard hitting, brutally honest books on being your own person and cutting through the world's lies and finding the truth. His newest book published in July 2012.

The eldest child, Ronin was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1983.

Ronin teamed with 18 other authors to bring you "Howls From The Wolfpack", a book on Critical Thought/Independence aka The Wolf Mentality. Do you question life, society, politics, yourself? Enter the Badlands as we dissect what it takes to be self-confident. Scrutinize society & the games people play alongside those unafraid to question.

Ronin's latest book is "Growls Of A Wolf", a blue-collar look at politics and today's issues in the form of essays, poetry and a short story. Ronin cuts through the spin and shows the reasons behind the lies, how freedom is being lost and showing the principles to living life to the fullest. Broken into 5 sections: Poetry, A short fiction story with a moral, Observations(a look at today's issues), Politics (How to cut through the lies and get the country back on the path of freedom) and Ronin's Journey (just a look at things in his life, lessons I learned).

Current Project is Ronin's Journey a book about about ego, pride, regret, and rebirth.

Abyss is a tiny company I use to publish and promote my work and recently I was tapped to take over Wicked Jester Clothing with three others, now two. Jeremy Burke from Howls and Luke Wiedensaul. Big things and a lot of work on the horizon.

Politics is not my forte, and I'm admittedly ignorant to a lot of the things involved in it. This book, however, paints a clear picture of what we're dealing with in modern times, and does a great job of exposing the political gambits that have become commonplace in campaigns, elections, and everyday government influence.

This book is well written and exposes the way the media and government has made America an entitlement country. Ronin also questions you at the end of chapters to think for yourself. It is well worth the price. My favorite chapter was Hang 'Em High about the death penalty. He ask a very good question at the end of that chapter, should the government have the power to kill it's own citizens? This is the kind of writing that makes you think. The book is an easy read and the chapters are short and straight to the point.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because of the layout. The inclusion of blank pages between the chapters distracted this reader. Otherwise, good job.
Keep it GOAT!

Vance is a good friend of mine, but he knows very well that I will be completely honest about anything. Like him, I follow a Think for Yourself mentality. Naturally, I will agree with most of the things in this book as him and I share a very similar mindset.

The writing itself was very solid. Great ideas, good follow through and completion of those ideas. No one topic in this book is much longer than the others, which gives a very balanced, but quick-fire type of read. It's actually hard to put down because of this layout. It, even more so, connects with the readers as it is not an over the top attempt as pseudo-intelligence, it is simply real-world smarts and common sense infused with the Wolf Mentality. I would like to see something much more in-depth in the future, to see just how far and how deep Ronin is willing to push it. The only complaint I have about the writing is a matter of style; ending an essay or topic with a question. I feel as though it leaves the reader hanging without a real end point. To me it also seems that most readers that would have to think about and analyze their answers would find it difficult to move onto the next piece of the book.

Now onto my singular biggest complaint. The layout. It does NOT interfere with the reading of the book in the slightest, but it bothers me. If a topic ends of the right hand page, the next does not begin on the next page. Rather, it skips the left hand page altogether. I would like to see every page -aside from the backs of title/section title pages- with content on them. There were slightly too many blank pages in my mind that could, and should have been filled.

Other than that small detail (trust me, when reading front to back and being sucked in like I did, you don't really notice it) this freshman solo project is by far one of the best I have seen and wouldn't think twice about recommending.

Those infamous words ring true, Keep it Wolf!
