5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Guinea Pig care manuals, January 19, 2002

I've owned a number of guinea pigs over the years, and had to rely on books from the local pet store obviously aimed at children. I bought this book for my husband and he read the whole thing through Christmas Day, much of it aloud - he was so excited to have so many things about our pet explained! Especially helpful is the information about nutrtion. We also recently purchased Diseases of Domestic Guinea pigs, but if you're going to have just one Guinea Pig care book this is the one to get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute pictures and up-to-date advice, February 2, 2001

This review is from: A Grown-up's Guide to Guinea Pigs (Paperback)
Dale Sigler loves guinea pigs. And he wants to let the world know that it's OK for grownups to have pets. You don't have to pretend it's for the kids- you're allowed to love cute, fuzzy little things without any excuses.

The book contains wonderful pictures, useful tables of information. The Quick-start chapter is especially helpful. Learn why piggies love parsley, how baby guinea pigs are different from most babies, and why two guinea pigs are better than one.

My only quibble would be that the book could have used a little bit more editing; sometimes the sentence structure is a little *too* much like talking, which can be confusing in print, without voice inflections and pauses. One would like a book that will be a permanent part of one's library to have been edited for grammar and punctuation. But that's a small quibble to a delightful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Adults/Parents Need to Know on Guinea Pig Care, May 10, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Grown-up's Guide to Guinea Pigs (Paperback)
I recommend this book to all my adopters. Its really the best one around for learning everything you need to know to bring a guinea pig into your home and properly care for him/her/them. While many parents want their children to take care of them, the truth is that parents will always have the primary responsibility, so even if you know nothing about piggies, you will know it all by the time you are finished. Its fun reading, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars All questions are answered!!, December 3, 2004
This review is from: A Grown-up's Guide to Guinea Pigs (Paperback)
This book is great, especially for those behavior's that you just can't explain. It has been helpful for me when I take my pigs to the vet for check-ups or any health problems because I can understand most of what they tell me may be wrong. I adopted one of the pigs from reviewer bunsnpigs and she recommended this boook now I'll recommend it to anyone with a pig.

The guy who wrote this book is CRAZY! But in a good way, he has 35 cavies in a small apartment. Good book with good info. He does say a couple of things I don't agree with but overall excellent book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good informaton on guinea pigs, March 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: A Grown-up's Guide to Guinea Pigs (Paperback)
I was reading some of the reviews from the readers, and i just have to disagree. I'm 12 years old, and I have a guinea pig! I take ALL responsibility for her. I feed her before I go to school in the morning, and change her cage 2 times a week, by myself. So I have to disagree with a women who said in her review that parents will have the responsibility for taking care of them. Except of course the parents will have to take them when they go to the vet, because I can't drive. This book was very helpfull, but a little confusing on the grammer side. Good luck if you get a guinea pig!

I bought this book because I am a new owner of a guinea pig which I adopted a guinea pig from a rescue. The title caught my eye because I am a adult guinea pig owner. I have read this book a few times to refer to some questions I had about my guinea pig. I recommend this book

Very informative. Not too long or detailed, but enough information for me to feel like I can correctly care for our new pets. It reads very easy.

I purchased "A Grown-Up's Guide to Guinea Pigs" because it is recommended by Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue, and I'm glad I did! There are a few things I disagree with (mainly, the cage sizes listed are way too small), but this publication has a lot of tips and tricks that are very helpful, especially for new guinea pig owners. This is a must-have for any cavy lover!

This book would be a great addition to any guinea pig owners library! I like the list of guinea pid foods and the vitamin and calcuim contents. It has a nice section on how to better take of an aging guinea pigs and other medical problems in guinea pigs.
The author obviously has a love and great knowledge of these little furry friends.
