This book covers the whole range of Gruau's career, and offers a chance to watch his talent blossom and mature(and ultimately fall victim to the hideous designs of the 70's). While not as big or impressive as the book published by TeNeues (ISBN: 3823809989 ), it is also more affordable.

What strikes me the most about the art of Gruau is the wonderful play of colors, solid reds with touches of blacks as highlights. Gruau's art seem so effortless and light yet you can actually see the texture of the materials being portrayed. One of the best fashion illustrators, combining simplicity with drama, and well defined brush strokes.

Think of Gruau's work as Chinese artwork combined with fashion and screaming colors.
