4.0 out of 5 stars steam and scream, March 12, 2010
This is a great machine. I had been looking at a variety of steam mops, and will use the format of one review that I found really useful:
cord length: 19 feet
weight: about 8 lbs (heavier than many)
time between water refills: 5-10 minutes (refilled twice to wash 200 sf of kitchen floor that was really grimy)
temperature of steam: 208 on the mop head according to our cheap instant-read thermometer
mop head size: 11" x 5"

pros: A very sturdy machine (worth the extra weight) that can use almost any towel or rag as a pad - I cut up an old bath towel and it works well. It heats up really fast. Unbelievably good at getting stuck-on gunk off the floor and left very little water on the floor (dry within a minute or two). Easy to push, though that depends partially on the type of pad you use (microfiber is stickier and thus harder to push). You'll scream at how clean it gets the floor! It even took up latex paint splots that were several years old. The attachments seem useful - the window one does a good job, and the squeegee did a great job getting dye stains off of our enameled bath tub.

cons: You do need to hold a trigger in to get steam to come out but the trigger design is comfortable. It's a bit unwieldy on the stairs because of its larger size (maybe the handheld part would be better for this). The head does not swivel, but it does tilt back without a lever or button. The fill hole for the water is tiny - you either need to use a funnel, or to keep track of the special spouted cup that comes with the machine - I wish there were a place in the attachment rack to store the cup. Also, getting the water tank off the machine to empty it when you're done cleaning is a bit awkward.

This machine seems to be available at local vacuum stores for the same price as on Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy work made of cleaning, August 29, 2010

This review is from: Gruene 2-N-1 Steam Mop and Steam Cleaner (Kitchen)
So, I received the 2-N-1 a few days ago and my initial reaction is that this is my new favorite toy!
I cleaned the kitchen floor first and I found that my laminate flooring felt incredibly clean afterward. I did not hold the steam release trigger continuously, but only intermittenly and the floors were quickly cleaned and then shortly thereafter had dried completely. I imagine the results are comparable to old fashioned mopping with scalding hot water and detergent, however the Greune makes things happen much faster and with remarkably less work.
Without refilling the removable tank I moved on to the bathroom and used a few attachments before cleaning that floor. The handheld feature is fantastic. The pressure of the steam is perfect for blasting out the grime from corners and around the toilet without having to apply the brush to the surface. I used a towel to quickly absorb the excess moisture. Using the scrub brush that was reccomended for grout on some surfaces caused its bristles to become slightly misshapen, but that could have been expected as they are nylon bristles. I was slightly disappointed with the Greune's ability to remove residual soap and water film from the shower. I have had more success there using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and a lot of elbow grease.
I used the squeegee tool on mirrors and windows and I am amazed at the resulting clarity. That also required a quick swipe with an absorbant towel at the bottom of the surface to pick up drips.
I would say overall that the Greune is a wonderful household tool for the obvious benefits of nixing chemical use at home and for the less apparent benefit of cutting cleaning time down to a fraction. It heats very qickly and can be used on a variety of surfaces in numerous rooms. The cord has plenty of length for using it in any room in my house, but not to go from room to room without finding another outlet. The reason for a 4-star rating as opposed to a 5-star rating is the fact that it doesn't do anything that a housewife more ambitious than myself couldn't do with some effort, but it makes cleaning my home faster and easier than it would otherwise be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, April 24, 2010
I had high expectations for this steam mop and was very excited to get it. I used the hand held portion to clean my bird cages. It did a good job, although it was very wet. But I figured it's hard to stop moisture gathering on metal bars without a cloth to mop it up.

Then I mopped my tile floors. The floor was so wet after I was done "steaming" it, that I had to wait 15 minutes for the floor to dry. Mopping the floor the old fashioned way does not leave my floor that wet, nor does it take that long for it to dry. The cord is far too short and I wound up having to use an extension cord. Had the floor not been so wet, I could have done without the extension cord. Finally, the floor was just not that clean, certainly no cleaner than when I mop it the old fashioned way.

My previous steam mop (a Shark) was so much better. The floor was dry within 2 minutes, the floor squeaked when I walked on it after mopping, it was so clean, and because the floor dried so quickly, I didn't need an extension cord. Sadly, the Shark died after 6 months of use, which was why I was in the market for a new steam mop. I'm going back to the Shark and hoping the next one lasts longer.
