3.0 out of 5 stars audio book (story on CD)
Love the story and the story narrator is terrific, sound effects and music add a lot to the reading as well. But be aware that this audiobook CD does not include page turn signals, so if you want to use it in a listening center it may not work well.

In Oliver's (age 5 from England) words... "This book is cozy."

His mother asked, "What do you mean by that, Oliver?"

Oliver replies, "Well because it's cold and snowy for the Gruffaloe's child. I like to tuck into you or Daddy whilst it's read and then I don't feel the cold from the book. It's quite a scary story too because I think the Big Bad Mouse will suddenly appear but really he's only a teeny, tiny mouse that the moon makes big.

"It's fun because all the pages rhyme. The best bit goes Aha! Oho! trails in the snow and when you hear this, you know something will get found but it's not always the Big Bad Mouse. I like the Owl best because he's got big eyes peeping out of the tree trunk."

Armchair Interviews says: Oliver, at age five loves to read. We have learned that if Oliver recommends a book, it's a must read. And The Gruffalo's Child is no exception.

...and like many sequels, it pales in comparison to the original. However, "The Gruffalo" is such a fantastic book that even not-quite-as-good is still pretty great.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gruffalo's Child, January 3, 2007
This review is from: The Gruffalo's Child (Hardcover)
A great follow up to one of our favourite books, The Gruffalo. Although, I think, To truly appreciate this book you need to have at least read The Gruffalo once or twice. My daughter loved it so much when we borrowed it from the library, she asked me to buy it (not something my six year old usually does!). Now we can read it whenever we want.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good companion to the first book., February 11, 2010

For some reason, I did not have high expectations for this book. Perhaps because the original is such a favorite with my kids and it was done so well. The sequel always seems to let you down, right? Well, not in this case. It's every bit as much fun, and my kids seem to love having it read to them just as well. You may end up having to double storytime, though, in order to read both books. Not the end of the world. If you have the first book, you have to get this one. If you have neither - get both! The pair would also make a great gift for a little kid's birthday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as Good as The Gruffalo, but..., October 10, 2008

This story, while good, lacks that certain something that "The Gruffalo" has. However, it is still and entertaining read and my 4 year-old faux-niece loves it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another one for the favorite list, May 21, 2007

The Gruffalo is already a firm favorite with my 5 year old and my 2 year old and the Gruffal's Child has joined it in being one of the frequently requested bedtime books. Probably not quite as good as The Gruffalo but if your children enjoyed the first one then they are going to appreciate this one too.

If you have a child that wants a book read over and over and over and over, then this is for you. A great book for your child AND a fun read for you as the adult. Great rythm and cadence.

We have the movie The Gruffalo and this book was perfect to continue the story. I would like to see it in a movie next.

Very cute 'sequel', but don't expect it to be as good as the first one. I do recommend adding this to the collection because it does give you a little something different to read if you've already read The Gruffalo numerous times.

After falling in love with the Gruffalo, we got this book for our toddler. She loved it and reads it all the time. The original Gruffalo book is her favorite, but this one is a close second.
