5.0 out of 5 stars Great little-known music, March 2, 2005
Firstly, I did NOT buy this for the Nirvana song. To be so shallow as to think that would be the only good song on this compilation is unbelievable. True, Nirvana is the only really well-known band on this one, but for those of us who have advanced a bit deeper into the world of grunge, Dive is only one of several gems found here.

This album features the heavy metal song "Stumbling Man" by Tad, with Soundgarden-like riffs and deep vocals. It also features punkish "House" with Babes in Toyland where Courtney Love does some superb angry vocals. Most of the rest of the songs are rather grungy, most are really good.

I recommend this album for any fan of Nirvana not yet familar with the rest of the Seattle scene, as it contains some very good examples of grunge songs, and some good reasons to check these bands out further. Also recommended for fans of any of the bands on the record, as the songs on this compilation are mostly singles that are hard to get hold of otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Various artists, various songs., April 18, 2004
Though it may look like it, this isn't a "Best of Grunge", or even a "Best of Sub-Pop" collection. But it is a great bunch of random songs from random bands of the genre. The first two tracks are probably the most well known, but they're all just as good. I especially like the songs from "Tad", "Mark Lanegan", "The Afghan Whigs", and "The Walkabouts". The "Mudhoney" one is good also. To tell the truth, I'm kind of suprised Sup-Pop never did a "Best Of" type thing, or anyone for that matter. Also, all these songs were released in 1990-91, and after my copy of this, there's only 499,999 others, so happy hunting.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great summary of an erra most missed, July 9, 1998
By A Customer
This cd is a wonderful theme and collection of only a taste of a few of the bands from the "Seattle Scene". - "I dont know why people put so much emphasis on scenes, i mean its happened all over the place, minneapolis, new york, L.A." -Kurt Cobain- Kurt Cobain is from Nirvana, they contributed the deep dark sounds of Dive to this wonderful cd. --- Also featured is the most excellent poppy band Mud Honey. --- I would just like to add the comment that this cd now is a great closing, or was an opening to a door of grunge music that let many people learn that there was more to music than just the stuff played on TV! give a listen, im sure you will like it...
