5.0 out of 5 stars A joke band that's actually better in some respects.
Heard these guys on the Christmas episode of Little Steven's Underground Garage and picked this up hoping "Santa Got Run Over By My Chevy" was on it. It wasn't, but for a joke band, the covers are often better than the originals.

3.0 out of 5 stars As time passed it see it's a 4 star. Please, release some live albums.
This is their 5th album. 2005. Great idea. Do really tight covers of classic punk songs and change the lyrics to funny cholo lyrics. Funny stuff. Be sure not to miss 'em live. Meanwhile, they have some cool t-shirts too in that case changing classic punk logos into humerous Chicano themed logos.

Update 03/09:
I really wanna like their albums...

Humor, especially un-PC (read: black) humor, has been a mainstay of punk since the days of The Ramones and The Dictators. Manic Hispanic carry on that tradition, even topping da Brudders in their parody "Tijuana Affair."

Even though this is on a major affiliated label, this is probably one of the best albums I've bought this year, and I buy a lot of them.

Update 03/09:
I really wanna like their albums knowing how great they are live. And now I do. Not as much as the joyful, funny, total cholo/punk live experience but still the albums all have the humor, the musical tightness and totally bring back the original classic punk songs but in a fresh way. Sure, the live shows have a blast of energy that the albums don't but the albums are all high quality work and totally worth hearing again.

It'd be totally cool if they released some live ones albums and dvds! All dressed up as ranchero mariachi's, great stuff man. Then another show back to their cholo clothes. And the guy from the Adolescents on guitar, every time he sings that Misfits cover it's like perfection. Their studio stuff just doesn't zing while their live stuff is always good and sometimes plain spellbinding. Albums revisited: I'm a believer. It works, yea, in the shadow of the amazing live shows but still, they're strong and totally enjoyable recreations of punk's early classic songs with cholo humor lyrics. Ese... [..]

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny AND good music, September 6, 2005

If you took the humour of Carlos Mencia and set it to music you would have Manic Hispanic. These parodies not only rock out musically in their own right but they're just laugh-out-loud funny. The closer one is to Chicano culture, the funnier it is. From subtle to bawdy, this is great stuff in the tradition of previous albums and of course "Santa Got Run Over By My Chevy".

i doubt that manic hispanic can make more than maybe one more album after this one before they start really sucking. Similar to the gimme gimmes they are just running out of material. This album maybe be the last one that has more than a couple of good songs on it. To be Mijo goes to jr. college is probably their best with the recline and menudo incident tied for second right behind mijo.

This is probably their worst effort yet it is still extremely enjoyable. I do think that some of their skits are hit or miss especially after repeated listening. I would get mijo or the recline first before getting into this one.

To be honest despite my harsh criticism they are honestly one of the best punk bands around and this cd has to be on a top 5 list for punk band releases in 2005. I just don't think its up to the level of their previous albums still very good though.
