The title of Stephanie's Id's latest release, "Grus Americanus", is taken from the (slightly modified) scientific name for the highly endangered whooping crane. The similar fragility of the species, "ALBUM", has been ushered in by the era of the digital download, which has been the trumpet call of judgment day for the music industry.

Artists who wish to avoid the path of the Dexis Midnight Runner DoDo bird should take heed of the Darwinist tendencies in the music biz to consume and purge. "Grus Americanus" is a meticulously produced, handcrafted work of art that stands out in a world of sweat-shop rock. It is to be savored. It wants to be digested. From the foreboding introductory piece "Wash us Down with Sea Saline" to the wistfully playful closing track "Bounce," Stephanie's Id manages to seamlessly traverse the bridge from one emotion to the next.

With their latest release, Stephanie's Id proves that there are musicians out there who still care about the listenability of their album from start to finish. Don't just download a song or two. Listen to "Grus Americanus" in its entirety, with a thought and a prayer of nursing the ALBUM back from the brink of extinction.

I seek out 'this kind of stuff', which is actually ironic because 'this stuff' is unique, quirky, unpredictable, AND beatiful at the same time.

To date, there is one and only one song by Stephanie's Id that I do not particularly care for (--and, no, it's not on "Grus Americanus"). That leaves everything else they've ever recorded to be described as nothing short of utterly fantastic and worthy of 5 stars.

"Ozone", "Cold Cold", "Just Wanna Show Ya" and "Hey Hey Hey" are standout tracks on this, their latest, release.

With each subsequent release even better than the last, this group--with its clever lyrics & arrangements and acrobatic vocal delivery--is on its way to certain stardom. My advice? Get your copy of each CD now so when Stephanie Morgan et al are finally recognized to the extent that they deserve, you can say you knew them when--and whip out your worn, old CDs to prove it.
